Question

Hi,

I am going to complete 5 years in job as a SAP consultant. I am looking forward to go for an Executive MBA course and career switch.By time i will be taking admission i will be completing 7 years of work ex.
Please help to know about the future aspects of doing an Executive MBA.
Also plz suggest which college and course I should target.

hi there, I'm a bit confused by your question.

You're targeting an EMBA program, which is great. But what do you mean by what courses you should target?

First off, you're going to have to prep for GMAT. Depending on the school that you're targeting, your GMAT will matter a lot, or a lot less. Identify the schools you're interested in going, and start to study for GMAT.

Judging from this post only, I think you have some studying to do in terms of what an EMBA does for you. You should probably look into a traditional 2-year fulltime MBA as well, since you're going to be a career switcher. An EMBA generally gives you the stepping stone for you to gain that title in the same company or industry you're in. A 2-year fulltime MBA is the traditional path for people who truly want to switch a career, say from sports analyst to consulting.

Hi saurabhgoel,

I agree with much of the above post. Executive MBA programs tend to look for candidates with 10+ years of work experience. Additionally, traditional 2 year MBA programs are an excellent choice for individuals looking to change careers because of the summer internship.

As a side note, although Executive MBA programs are normally only 1 year long, the cost is often comparable to a 2 year MBA program.

Hi, I have a part time MBA in Marketing having worked in the BFSI space for over a decade now. I feel like I’m stuck in terms of career growth and prospects. Hence, I am planning to give my GMAT this year and try for an Executive MBA. I am 38 currently. Can anyone please help/counsel if it’s a good idea and worth it and if yes then which colleges in India or abroad should I focus on?

Thank you for your post. An Executive MBA makes sense for those looking to get ahead, typically through promotions. If I may, what is it that you are hoping an EMBA will offer you, as far as opportunities? Typically EMBAs are fast-track programs and expect the executive to continue working while enrolled in the program.
