I need to decide between Cornell-Queens Executive MBA and UC Davis part time MBA.
The fees are almost same. I am from technical background. and based on bay area. Which would be better for realizing long-term career goal of managing strategic planning, finance, production, sales and marketing?
Thanks & Best Regards
There are several factors you need to consider as you weigh these two programs. I would divide these factors into 2 categories: where you'll feel you fit in best and where you'll gain the best career push.
Fitting in is important since you'll be sitting in class and working on projects with your peers in the program. Some of the issues you should consider are the average age of the students (30 at Davis and 36 at CQEMBA) and their backgrounds (20% from tech backgrounds at Davis and 35% from tech backgrounds at CQEMBA). I would also counsel women (I'm not sure of your gender) to consider the percentage of women in the program (32% at Davis but only 19% at CQEMBA).
The career push is difficult to measure, but there are some factors to consider. The Davis program will likely limit you to peers from your area whereas the CQEMBA will obviously expose you to people from around the US (mostly East and West coasts) and Canada. So if you are interested in staying in the Bay Area, you will be building a very strong network at Davis; however, if you were hoping to move or expand to more global opportunities, the Davis network isn't necessarily going to help you do that; whereas, the Cornell name is renowned globally specifically for its finance and strategy education. Also, keep in mind that the Davis program will take about 3 years to finish while the CQEMBA will only require 16 months. So if you're in a hurry to begin benefiting from the MBA title and education, the CQEMBA is significantly faster.
I hope these pieces of information will help you assess the better fit for you.
