The graph above represents the results of a survey given to four focus groups labeled A, B, C, and D. Each group was shown a different image of the same man dressed for a professional interview. Each image pictured a different interview outfit containing more profession markers than the previous image, including a tie, formal shoes, a briefcase, and other factors. After the group viewed the image, members were asked two questions: “Did you feel the candidate dressed professionally?” and “How likely is the candidate to get hired for the position?”
The position of each circle on the graph reflects the perceived level of professionalism of the attire in a given photo, based on the percentage of focus group members who indicated that the outfit was professional. The relative size of the circle indicates the degree to which focus group members indicated that the candidate would be hired for the job.
Select the best answer to fill in the blanks in each of the statements below based on the data shown in the graph.
1. The relationship between the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired is .
2. The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally is closest to times the percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally.
I. The relationship between the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired is ______.
A. negative B. zero C. positive Positive circle size is increasing along y axis in +ve in comparison to x axis
2 The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally is closest to ______ times the percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally.
A. 1.5 B. 2 C. 2.5
max people in group B who felt candidate dressed professionally is ~45% max people in group A who felt candidate dressed professionally is ~22% which is ~2 times OPTION B
I. The relationship between the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired is ______. Since, the percentage of group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired increases from group A to group D, therefore, the relationship is positive. A. negative B. zero C. positive
II. The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally is closest to ______ times the percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally.
The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally = 40 the percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally = 20 So, it is 2 times. A. 1.5 B. 2 C. 2.5
I. The relationship between the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired is ______.
A. negative B. zero C. positive
Solution: We see a positive correlation, as there is increase in hiring potential based on professional outfit Hence c. positive
II. The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally is closest to ______ times the percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally.
QUESTION 1
I. The relationship between the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired is ______.
A. negative B. zero C. positive
% of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally ---> The position of each circle on the graph. Degree to which focus group members indicated that the candidate would be hired for the job ---> The relative size of the circle.
For any particular group, say A/B/C/D,
As the % of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally (indicated by the position shift to the right on the Y-axis of the graph) ie, increases, so does the Degree to which focus group members indicated that the candidate would be hired for the job (indicated by the relative size of the circle) increases.
Hence, the relationship is POSITIVE
(C) is the CORRECT answer
QUESTION 2
II. The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally is closest to ______ times the percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally.
A. 1.5 B. 2 C. 2.5
For the group B, the Graph shows % (Hired Professionally) = 40%
For the group A, the Graph shows % (Hired Professionally) = 20% Required answer = 40/20 = 2 times
(B) is the CORRECT answer
The answers are (C) and (B) for Questions 1 & 2, , respectively
I. C positive percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired increases, percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally also increases.
II. B percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally = 40% percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally = 20% Ratio = 40/20 = 2 times
I. The relationship between the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired is positive.
As we can see from the graph there is increase in position of each circle based on the the perceived level of professionalism of the attire in a given photo. A (20%, B 40%, C (55%), D (80%) Also, The relative size of the circle increase when we move from A to D indicate that the possibility of candidate would be hired for the job increases from A to D.
This indicated that there is a linear relation in the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired with a postive slope.
II.The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally= 40 %
The percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally = 20 %
Required ratio = 40 /20= 2
The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally is closest to 2 times the percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally.
I. The relationship between the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally and the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired is ______.
A. negative B. zero C. positive
Using the data from the Graph,
the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally (The position of each circle on the graph) gets larger ---> The relative size of the circle indicating the degree to which focus group members indicated that the candidate would be hired for the job also gets larger
+ve Correlation (depicted by the Graph)
Relationship = POSITIVE
II. The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally is closest to ______ times the percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally.
A. 1.5 B. 2 C. 2.5
Using the data from the Graph,
The percentage of people in group B who felt the candidate was dressed professionally = 40 percent The percentage of people in group A who felt the candidate was dressed professionally = 20 percent
The answer to the first question is C. As the percentage of the group who felt the subject was dressed professionally increased, so did the percentage of the group who believed the subject would be hired; the relationship between those percentages is positive.
The answer to the second question is B. About 20 percent of Group A felt the candidate was dressed professionally, and about 40 of group B did, which is twice as much.
