Lived, worked and studied in India, USA and Canada. Canadian now, working for a gold mining company. Have worked for a IT Startup, Media agency and gold mining company.

Graduated from Penn State, Post grad diploma in Canada with honors and 3.94 GPA. Promoted at each of the jobs I have held.

Captain and top scorer for Soccer team at Penn State, Co-president of Campus Activity Board and a student run cancer philanthropy group.

Travelled to 10 countries and back packing across Europe and USA (separate trips)

Post MBA want to get into Big tech as a Product Manager and long term start my Digital Firm to help start up, local and family business going digital and expanding their business.

Have managed and delivered Projects ranging from $300,000 to $900,000 at each of the jobs. Want to go the next level and develop and manage products. Fingers crossed as I am an older applicant (32 if I start in 2024)

Welcome to GMAT Club.
I feel the Sub-33 age is just fine and sub-35 is doable. The key is whether you can demonstrate success and opportunity to leverage the school's recruiting pathways. It starts getting a bit tricky at some point, e.g. if your current position is Director or something senior and you would be recruiting into a PM which would be considered a step down. Maybe you did not get promoted to a certain level but then AdCom will see that as a slow career progression. It is more the experience rather than age since some folks out of military or PhD may not have as much experience/promotions/etc.

P.S. I like your program choices. Fingers crossed for interviews!

Thank you so much for those insights, I agree what you mean. Luckily I feel I have been able to show progression at each job while showing that PM would be a good jump for me post MBA. I think moving to new countries and starting from scratch twice and building myself up to each career progression helped me in that case.

And yes I tried to apply to only the programs which I know can definitely help me in PM roles, very clear what I want so didn't want to be distracted by other biggies! :D

Sorry about the Foster Ding. :-(
It is tough without a score - that's one more data point that's missing. Sorry. What's your R2 plan?

Yes I thought so too, but well I tried. Waiting to see how Tepper goes, if not planning to take GMAT and get a significant score to probably negate the Age (If that really does hinder my application) Also thinking to change strategy, probably aim for European and Indian schools where my above average age might not be such a big issue. Any feedback? Do you think starting MBA at 32/33 European/ Indian schools is a better option?

The work experience is a combination of factors, so you can't just say, hey I am 33 and therefore too old for example. It depends on what you will be recruiting for, what your former role was, experience, and your story and energy. If you are like me, not very outgoing, and quiet and boring, then we are in trouble

Europe can be an option but recruiting in the US sucks if you go to school there - definitely you will be a more attractive applicant there, not only because of age but also location, as someone from Canada. Your other option would be MSx or Sloan Fellows for folks with 8+ years of work experience. These are 1-year programs but they are competitive and selective.

You may benefit from getting a consultant for a few hours and help you figure things out since every year ads more pressure and you have 2 months until R2, so still have ability to effect change. Hiring a consultant in Dec will be much less valuable...

Thank you so much for the genuine response, really appreciate it. And for recruiting i am open to come back to Canada or Europe so feel European schools might not be a bad idea.

And I already have one consultant so need to discuss this new route as I feel given your feedback and other threads on here each round or year and it gets tougher for me in US programs but as you said might be a stronger candidate in European schools.

But first need to ace GMAT, how i wish I had started earlier on that. Probably underestimated it’s value given the waivers these days.

I totally understand applying with a waiver. If someone told you you did not have to jump into a pool of razor blades, I would totally sign up for a waiver. However, it’s a double edge sword. I don’t think I’ve seen a whole lot of stats about it but when Darden made Gmail optional back in 2020 and allowed anyone to apply with the waiver, they denied 90% of applicants without a score. Likely that was because applicants were not serious and applied on a very short notice but still the number of dings is staggering…. I don’t know what the latest statistics are these days. I feel your consultant should be pretty straightforward and honest with you about your candidacy and chances since they have quite a few historical examples.

Woah! Those are staggering numbers and I feel an eye opener for others as well. I did feel it was 50/50 as there isn’t much data online be it here or reddit about waiver admits. It’s some saying we got in while other just dinged without an interview. I do feel sometimes that it’s another way to encourage people to apply without a score but as you said probably majority of them are dinged while some with an exceptional profile might get in without a gmat. And yes I am going to discuss that and only apply to programs where I am not fighting against all odds, as there are already too many 😂

Hi all thank you for looking at my profile

29 M Indian male, CFA level 2 passed
Undergrad : BSc University of Toronto, biotechnology, Gpa 3.7/4
Post Grad : MSc University of Toronto, biotechnology (3.7/4),
GMAT: 740 (Q46 V46)

Work exp:
soon after completing my masters thesis in Biotech started working at the age of 26; 3 years in equity research in pharma/healthcare at a well known Indian firm. Joined as an intern but got hired full time at an associate level within 3 months. Completed 2 levels of CFA while working (passed each on first attempt)

Volunteer activities:
Almost 5 years volunteer experience throughout UG and PG engaged in consulting clubs on campus and 2 years experience as a volunteer engagement manager consulting remotely for a not for profit organization in the Philippines

My story:
Was always interested in biology and while pursuing my masters grew passionate about business through my extracurricular engagements. I was determined to land a front end finance/consulting role with a healthcare component to it as I wanted to combine my two professional interests and managed to earn an internship at a top investment bank in India in the equity research division which I converted into a full time role. My company was appreciative of my healthcare/biotech background as that was the sector I covered. Now I am looking to upscale and find opportunities in the healthcare PE/VC space and an MBA will help me achieve this goal.

Other hobbies: cyclist (amateur), routinely take part in local races/community rides and have also won a local competition once; captained intramural football team in college, also play volleyball and badminton

PS: might be a stretch but do I have a shot at any M7s with this profile ?

Good luck on the GMAT!
I’m not sure if in Sead is strong in PE. Probably have to recruit in London for it anyway… so any UK school would likely have similar chances unless in Seattle is really strong and pee, I just don’t know enough about that side of them.

PS. in the US PE is hard because they’re only so many spots and you basically want to target, booth and Columbia. But it is hard 😬 do you want to make sure that admissions sees your transition to private equity as easily achievable because if they don’t, they admit someone else with less ambitious goals.

Hi thanks for the reply, you’re right about the lack of roles which is why I’m flexible with my goals, in any case, it’s quite common for mba grads to be placed in consulting/ib and then transition to PE after so that is a path I’m very open to…I’m looking to remain in the APAC region which is why these are the only two schools I’m focused on!

Got ya! Not sure if NUS makes sense or if it’s not strong enough. I am weak in Asian schools 😇

PS. Good luck on the test!
Great job by the way getting the two CFA levels. I’ve heard it’s very hard. It’s a great proof of your accomplishments.

1. While ISB may not really help you much in your post MBA goals, INSEAD is also more focused on Consulting.
2. Your education abroad will help demonstrate your international exposure, and will differentiate you well from the pool of Indian applicants
3. The Fast career trajectory AND the CFA 2 will help buttress your application with solid results, that really will give the confidence to the reader
4. Depending on your involvement and the roles performed in the NGO, the work done there over time will help round off your profile.
5. The hobbies and other sports will also help add additional facets to your profile.

Of course, the key In all this would be to have a 750/+ GMAT AND a very strong application that is able to offer a compelling story that differentiates you from your competition, especially because most IB/PE profiles applying to MBA schools come with high GMATs and Strong Applications as pretty much hygiene factors.

I am a Belarusian political refugee. Participated in civil demonstrations during political crisis in 2020, volunteered for Red Cross for a couple of times, took part in a university strike Committee. Forced to take a political migration to Poland.

Hold 2 Bachelors Degrees from top-1 universities in appropriate countries, 1 from Belarussian State University with GPA ~3.0 in Applied Math, second from Vilnius University, Lithuania, in Quantitative Economics, GPA 3.35.

Work Experience: 4 Years working for a private family fund, as a data scientist/quantitative researcher. Developed platform for automative news analysis with AI, transformed its signals into a profitable trading strategy and then executed this strategy. Currently working in a start-up on AI-driven platform for portfolio managers.

Additional activities: Remotely taught a course in financial machine learning in Center of Math. Finance, High School of Economics (Russia). Took additional courses in Accounting, Options Trading, Financial Math, Credit Instruments Trading.

Post MBA Goal: 2-3 years asset management/trading desks (fx, derivatives)/analyst position in big investment bank -> transfer to buy-side hedge funds as asset manager.

I want to switch my specialization from quant finance into more traditional analytic role with possibility to pivot to a business in future.

Hello Saloni,

Your post MBA Goals appear to be extremely clear. I’m glad you have a very clear vision of what you’re looking to achieve.
I also see the schools that you’re targeting. A little more insights on your background, your previous experience, your achievements and your GMAT score would be important parameters to gauge the best fir University.
Saying so, we would also be able to have a bit more targeted approach for applying to each University if you can align exactly what is it that you seek from each University in particular that would help you in the goals you mentioned above. I would be happy to discuss in detail with you over a quick chat / call and help you with a few tips!

Thanks,
Mrunal Deo

Hello

Your profile for MBA admissions consists of some key elements. You have two years of work experience, which is lower for MBA programs, especially for top schools. You are from India, a common nationality among MBA applicants, particularly for international programs.

Target MBA Schools: You have listed a mix of top-tier MBA programs, including US and European schools. Your choice of schools is competitive, and your chances will depend on the strength of your application.

You plan to take the GMAT, but you haven't provided a score. Your GMAT score is a critical factor in your application, and a high score can significantly improve your chances, especially for top-tier schools.

You've mentioned a GPA of 7, but the grading scale may differ by country and institution. It's essential to convert this GPA to the 4.0 scale for better understanding. A strong GPA is important for your application.

You mentioned that your pre-MBA industry is "Other," but you haven't provided specific details. Admissions committees will want to know more about your background and experiences. You've outlined your short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals, which include leveraging your language and cultural skills in international trading, introducing new products, and expanding your NGO efforts. These goals align with various aspects of business and social impact.

In your case, the competitiveness of your application will depend on several factors, including your GMAT score, the quality of your work experience, your leadership potential, and the clarity of your goals. Given the highly competitive nature of MBA admissions, it's crucial to prepare a strong application, including a compelling resume, essays, and letters of recommendation. Additionally, consider highlighting the unique aspects of your profile, such as your cultural and language skills and non-profit experience.

Suppose your GMAT score is competitive and you can effectively convey your strengths and aspirations in your application. In that case, you have a strong chance of being admitted to the MBA programs you've mentioned. However, the specifics of your application and how you present your story will play a significant role in your admission outcomes.

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of your chances of admission to top Business schools.

Hello @akash812

I hope you are doing good. You have 4.6 years of work experience, which is a reasonable amount for MBA programs, especially if it is in a relevant industry like consulting. You applied to two prestigious MBA programs, INSEAD and Harvard, known for their competitiveness.

Your GMAT score of 760 is excellent and well above the average for most MBA programs, including top ones. Your high GMAT score is a significant strength in your application. Your GPA of 2.92 is on the lower side and could be a potential weakness in your application. Harvard, in particular, is known for its high academic standards, and a low GPA may have contributed to your denial there.

You have work experience in consulting, a common and respected industry for MBA applicants. Your industry background aligns well with your post-MBA goals, which can be advantageous. Your goal to continue in the consulting industry post-MBA is a clear and logical path, which is generally well-received by MBA admissions committees.

Your GMAT score is a significant strength in your profile. However, your relatively low GPA could have been a factor in your denial from Harvard, known for its academic rigor.

INSEAD's decision to interview you but ultimately deny your application suggests that there might have been other aspects of your application, such as your essays, letters of recommendation, or interview performance, that played a role in the decision.

In your case, it's essential to strengthen other aspects of your application, such as your essays, to present a compelling narrative about your experiences, goals, and what you bring to the MBA program. Additionally, consider seeking feedback from the schools that denied your applications to understand areas for improvement and reapply in the future if you are determined to pursue an MBA.

Overall, your profile has several strengths, including your work experience, GMAT score, and industry alignment with your goals. However, it's crucial to address any weaknesses, such as a low GPA, and present a well-rounded application to maximize your chances of acceptance to top MBA programs.

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of reasons of admission denial to top Business schools.

Hello @MVishwesh3

I hope you are doing good. You have 2.5 years of work experience in the Real Estate/Construction industry in administrative/managerial roles. While this is on the lower side of work experience for MBA programs, it's not unusual for some applicants, especially for programs like ISB, to consider candidates with less work experience.

You have selected various MBA programs, including ISB, Fuqua, HEC Paris, and Columbia. Your choice of schools reflects a range of geographical locations and program formats, which is a good strategy.

You mentioned that you plan to take the GMAT. A strong GMAT score is essential, especially for competitive MBA programs. Be sure to prepare well for the GMAT to maximize your chances. Your GPA is 3.3, which is a decent academic record. While it's not exceptionally high, it's generally acceptable for most MBA programs.

Your work experience in the Real Estate/Construction industry, even though unrelated to consulting, can still be valuable. Admissions committees often look for transferable skills, leadership experiences, and unique perspectives in candidates. Highlight how your experience has prepared you for a transition to consulting.

Your goal to transition to consulting is clear and feasible, given your background in administrative/managerial positions. Be sure to convey a strong rationale for why you want to transition and how the MBA will help you achieve this goal.

With your profile, it's important to present a compelling application highlighting your accomplishments, leadership experiences, and potential for success in an MBA program. Emphasize how your work in the Real Estate/Construction industry has equipped you with skills that are relevant to consulting, such as problem-solving, project management, and client interaction.

Additionally, securing a strong GMAT score will be crucial, especially for the competitive programs you're targeting. It's also a good idea to consider gaining some additional work experience before applying to enhance your profile. Admissions committees typically prefer candidates with more experience, but exceptions are made for exceptional candidates with unique backgrounds.

Overall, with the right GMAT score and a well-crafted application, you have a reasonable chance of being admitted to the MBA programs you've mentioned, particularly ISB and other programs that may be open to candidates with less work experience.

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of your chances of admission to top Business schools.

Congrats!
Would also recommend stern and if you’re feeling lucky, Stanford or if you thinking about gaming or TV, maybe Anderson.

After 4 years in implementation consulting, I am looking to switch into more strategic consulting and ultimately into corporate strategy roles. I have 7.5 years of military experience beforehand as a supply and logistics sergeant for the U.S. Marine Corps. I am applying to NYU and Columbia using the EA in which I scored a 150 (9 IR, 11 Verbal, 10 Quant).

Hello @case3500

I hope you are doing good. You have 11.5 years of work experience, significantly above the average for MBA programs. This extensive experience, including military service and consulting, can be a unique strength in your application.

You are applying to Stern and Columbia, both prestigious MBA programs in New York. Your choice of schools aligns with your post-MBA goals in consulting.

Your GPA of 3.6 is strong and demonstrates your academic capability. You have a background in consulting, which is relevant to your post-MBA goals. Your four years of experience in implementation consulting can be valuable for demonstrating your existing knowledge and skills in this field.

Your goal to transition from implementation consulting to more strategic consulting and, ultimately, corporate strategy roles is clear and logical. It's a feasible career progression, and your extensive work experience provides a solid foundation for such a transition.

You mentioned scoring 150 on the EA, which is the Executive Assessment exam used by some business schools. Your scores in each section seem balanced and competitive. However, you may want to verify the competitiveness of your EA score with the specific schools you are applying to since different schools may have different expectations regarding the EA.

Given your extensive work experience, strong GPA, and clear career goals, you have a strong profile for MBA programs. Your military experience can also be a unique asset that can set you apart from other applicants. Stern and Columbia, being top-tier programs, may appreciate your background and goals.

Ensure that your application materials, including your resume, essays, and letters of recommendation, highlight your accomplishments, leadership experiences, and how your past experiences have prepared you for your future goals. Additionally, verify the specific admissions requirements for EA scores at Stern and Columbia and make sure your score aligns with their expectations.

Overall, your profile appears competitive for admission to Stern and Columbia, especially if you can effectively convey how your unique background and extensive experience will contribute to your success in the MBA programs and the consulting field.

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of your chances of admission to top Business schools.

Hi. Even though you do have quite a bit of experience, a lot of it is military service and that does not count Ed by business schools against you, meaning they wouldn’t consider you being too old per se , which is a good thing. This will work as long as your career goals align with someone who had four years of work experience… and you’re not expecting to the Director position in a consulting company or something like that.

The EA is a bit on the lower side, but business school really do not care about the EA score and they can ignore it if they need to because it’s not reported anywhere. But that also removes a potential strength from your application and removes the data point so let’s say they ignore your lower executive assessment score and now they ignore your military service and focus on your four years of work experience so your work experience and your bachelors really have to shine And leave no doubt in the mind of that missions team… can they do that?

Originally from India, been working in the UAE for the past 3 years. Graduated in Bachelor of Business studies from a tier 1 college in India. Have worked in mid-large scale high-impact start-ups since starting (zomato, uber, urbancompany, justlife).

Received gmat waiver approval from Tuck, darden and UNC. I want to move to the US, and switch to a consulting job. (don't mind continuing in a high impact-driven start-up as well)

I want to get a clear answer on whether I should apply in R2 with the waivers or wait and take my GMAT and then target 5-6 good schools next year.

Hello Chi02,
1. You have a good Academic GPA. However, it would be important to know the details of your college.
2. GMAT Score - Your GMAT score is decent however, less for the schools that you’re targeting
3. Since your work experience is limited, it would be important to highlight other outstanding parameters from your profile. You could also consider appearing for CFA Level 1 if it fits in your career goals.
4. It would also be very important to know your post study goals.

I would be happy to have a quick chat with you in case of any questions. Feel free to reach out on below details.

I hold BA in economics from a top university in Turkey with 2.50/4.00 GPA and I had a 710 in GMAT (49Q 37V).

After college I worked at a chemical distribution company in strategy department for 8 months, then switched to investment banking which was my primary goal. I have been working at a boutique MM firm for almost 2 years, will be 3 years by the time I start my MBA. I am a senior analyst and can get good recommendation from the partners in the company and also from the CEO of my former company.
My post MBA goal is to work at a PE firm, which might sound very cliche.

Hi pauliewalnuts,

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations. My name is Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO.

Your career goals look fine with a clear vision and are a logical extension of what you are doing presently. We recommend including your class percentile of your bachelor’s degree to give a fair idea of your GPA. Your school list is balanced 😊.
A lot of details are missing like your undergrad institute, the impact of your work, promotions, international, exposure, extracurriculars, etc. in the given information, so if you send me your CV and other info on priyankak@ARINGO.com, I would love to connect you with our CEO who will be happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps.

All the best!

My overarching career objective is to leverage my 3+ years of experience as an Associate Data Scientist, in conjunction with my MS in Health Data Science and Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, to drive meaningful change within the healthcare sector. In the short term (2-5 years after obtaining my MBA), I aspire to secure a Consultant position at a leading healthcare or biotechnology firm. Here, I will apply my expertise to generate data-driven insights and innovations that enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency meanwhile also leveraging my business knowledge and understanding to make better informed decisions on the business outlook of the product and its impact. Looking ahead to the long term (5-10 years post-MBA), my aim is to take on a leadership role as the AI product owner at a prominent healthcare technology company, such as Cerner Corporation, GE healthcare, IQVIA, Pfizer etc,. In this capacity, I will lead a dynamic team in spearheading transformative projects that harness advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to revolutionize the IT industry.

@FALSEnine9,
You have a decent GMAT Score. But I feel you have not showcased your profile very well in your applications. It is very important to highlight aspects of the profile that these business schools focus on. ALso, make sure you. correctly establish a link between your Pre-MBA Career to why you would seek a Post MBA career in consulting.
I would be happy to help you. with many such pointers to make sure your application stands out with a competitive edge!
Feel free to contact me!

@Siddis, I would advise you to pump up your GMAT Score if you're looking to get admitted to any of the above schools. Besides GMAT, you also need to work on showcasing your profile and putting it across so that it stands out among the competition. I would be happy to have a 1-2-1 discussion with you and guide you for selecting the best fit University for you.
