After 7 years in Real estate, I want to work in logistics and supply chain as I was always fascinated by how things reach us via complex network. I see both my short term and long term goals in this sector. I’m targeting top 20 program in the US.

Hi, hope you are doing well

Your description lacks sufficient information about your experience in the real estate sector and how it aligns with your post-MBA goals.

However, if you have experience in the construction business or logistics-related real estate development, it would be more plausible from an application standpoint.

You must focus on crafting a seamless narrative that covers three areas:
1) career growth progression, leadership and stakeholder management across all levels- 7 years in real estate is a fairly long time
2) context for liking supply chain management (SCM)
3) Solid goals strategy with research on the SCM roles that interest you and why. It is one thing to express interest in SCM, but it is another thing to show you have thoroughly researched the field. For instance, how you fit into one of these domains such as SC analytics, network design, working capital management/inventory design, and SC product design can help you differentiate yourself.

Aim for a high GMAT and target early rounds. I would not comment on schools' selection as that would require an in-depth discussion on your current and previous work experience.

Feel free to reach out should you need further guidance

Hello,
Here is an evaluation of your profile.

Work Experience:
With seven years of work experience in the real estate industry, you have developed a strong professional background. Admissions committees value candidates with substantial experience as it brings valuable perspectives to classroom discussions. However, it's important to highlight transferable skills and how your experience can contribute to your desired field of logistics and supply chain.

Diversity:
Being an Indian male, you belong to an overrepresented demographic group in MBA admissions. It means you may face more competition due to the large number of applicants from your demographic. To stand out, emphasize your unique experiences, achievements, and the value you can bring to the MBA program.

GMAT Score:
Since you mentioned planning to take the GMAT, it's important to aim for a competitive score to increase your chances of admission. Research the average GMAT scores for your target schools, and consider preparing thoroughly to achieve a score that aligns with their expectations.

GPA:
Your GPA of 3.23 falls slightly below the average for top MBA programs. However, it's important to remember that admissions committees consider the entirety of your application. A lower GPA can be offset by strong work experience, compelling essays, and strong recommendation letters that highlight your abilities and potential.

Career Goals:
Your career goals, transitioning from real estate to logistics and supply chain, should be clearly articulated in your application. Explain why you are interested in this field, how your background has prepared you for it, and how an MBA from Kenan-Flagler or Tepper will help you achieve your goals.

Target Programs:
Both Kenan-Flagler and Tepper are reputable business schools. As you are targeting programs in the top 20, it's crucial to highlight your achievements, leadership experiences, and contributions to your field to compete with other qualified candidates.

Suggestions for Enhancement:
To strengthen your profile for Kenan-Flagler and Tepper:

GMAT Preparation: Dedicate sufficient time and effort to preparing for the GMAT to achieve a competitive score. Consider enrolling in a test preparation course or using study materials to maximize your potential.

Highlight Transferable Skills: Emphasize the skills and experiences from your real estate background that are relevant to logistics and supply chain. Showcase your ability to analyze data, manage projects, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and make strategic decisions.

Networking and Research: Connect with alumni or current students from Kenan-Flagler and Tepper to gain insights into the programs and demonstrate your interest and commitment. Use the information you gather to tailor your application essays and interview responses.

Extracurricular Involvement: Engage in activities that demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and community involvement. This will showcase your well-roundedness and your ability to balance multiple responsibilities.

Clear Career Vision: Clearly articulate how an MBA from Kenan-Flagler or Tepper will help you transition to logistics and supply chain. Demonstrate your passion for the field and your understanding of the industry's challenges and opportunities.

Remember that your application should present a comprehensive picture of your experiences, achievements, and aspirations. By effectively conveying your unique qualities and demonstrating how an MBA from your target schools will facilitate your career goals, you can enhance your chances of admission to your target schools.

If you have any additional questions about your profile or the program and would like to have a more thorough and personalized discussion with our top profile experts, please feel free to schedule a call with us. We would be more than happy to assist you.

Post MBA, my short-term goal is to perform a Management Consulting role in India, especially in Energy sector. Long-term goal is to transition into leadership role in Renewable Energy industry.

Hey Nitin,

You have got a solid pre MBA work ex in the Energy industry, however your GPA and GMAT score are on the lower end to make a competitive application. Would suggest that you give the GMAT another shot and maybe bump up the score beyond the 720 level to have a good chance at the PGPx programs in the IIMs.
Your career objective of being in the Renewable Energy is a solid goal given India's new RE targets and the vibrancy within the industry (particularly the new energy vertical). You can target some of the top Indian IPPs in a Corporate Strategy Function or even look at pursuing their leadership track (all have formed some sort of leadership development program). Management consulting post MBA will be competitive and may not be able to do justice to your level of experience and depth of knowledge within the industry since most positions are still relatively early career openings, hence its best to stick to a good corporate role with the RE space. Outside of the mentioned list of programs you can also explore the ISB PGP 1 year program and would also suggest researching some good EU options given the increasing emphasis those countries are paying decarbonization, you may find some really good career opportunities within the UK, Germany, Amsterdam and France all of which have some leading utilities who are pivoting to RE.

Drop a mail at info@thembaedge.com to have a detailed conversation! Cheers!

Hello,
The profile you have presented for an MBA program is quite strong and demonstrates a solid academic and professional background. Let's evaluate the different components:

Academic Performance:
Your academic performance is excellent, with consistently high scores throughout your educational journey. Your perfect CGPA in Class 10, impressive Class 12 percentage, and strong GPA in your undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering showcase your intellectual capabilities and commitment to academic excellence. Admissions committees will appreciate your consistent academic record.

Work Experience:
Your work experience at Amazon Operations, particularly as an Operations Leader, adds significant value to your profile. Admissions committees often value candidates who have demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage people and complex operations. Your quick career growth within the organization further highlights your potential for leadership roles in the future.

Career Goals:
Your stated career goals of seeking an MBA to experience a diverse class culture, gain international work exposure, and transition from an operations background to consulting or program management align well with the MBA program's objectives. Your desire to scale up and broaden your skill set demonstrates ambition and a clear vision for your professional development.

School Aspirations:
Expressing an interest in pursuing an MBA from M7/T10 schools reflects your desire to join top-tier institutions known for their academic rigor, strong alumni networks, and career opportunities. These schools attract highly competitive applicants, and your impressive academic and professional background will enhance your chances of admission.

Suggestions for Enhancement:
While your profile is strong, there are a few areas you could consider further enhancing:

Leadership Experience: Highlight specific instances where you demonstrated leadership, initiated changes, or managed teams/projects during your work experience. This will showcase your ability to lead and make an impact.

Extracurricular Involvement: If you have been involved in extracurricular activities, such as volunteering, clubs, or community initiatives, include them in your profile. These experiences demonstrate your ability to balance multiple responsibilities and showcase your well-roundedness.

GMAT/GRE Score: Scoring well on the GMAT or GRE can further strengthen your application. Aim for a competitive score that aligns with your target schools' average scores.

Essays and Recommendations: Pay careful attention to your application essays, ensuring they effectively convey your motivations, goals, and unique qualities. Additionally, choose recommenders who can speak to your leadership potential, work ethic, and ability to succeed in an MBA program.

Overall, with your impressive academic background, strong work experience, and clear career goals, you have a compelling profile for admission to M7/T10 schools. Just remember to emphasize your leadership skills, engage in meaningful extracurricular activities, and submit a well-crafted application to maximize your chances of acceptance.

Currently I'm working as an Tech consulting domain specialize in SAP products and implementation.

Post MBA, I want to switch to Management consulting domain which would provide me great exposure of various types of business problems. This will enrich my understanding of business and diversify my area of expertise within the management consulting domain.

My short term goal is to switch my tech consulting domain to management consulting to work on wide variety of assignments. Long term goal is to attain a director or partner level position in an organization where I'll use my tech consulting background knowledge and merge it with post mba experience of management consulting to propose new solution to the clients. Use of technology along with business acumen will be most sought after skill in the market few years from now on. I want to build position in this area to attain best growth in my career.

Hi Anjay,

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations.

My name is Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO.

Your career goals look fine with a clear vision and are a logical extension of what you are doing presently. As you are targeting all tier-1 schools and your GPA seems to be average (plus you are part of an over-representative pool of candidates)- a high GMAT score and impactful essays will be needed.
A lot of details are missing like your undergrad institute, promotions, international, exposure, extracurriculars, etc. in the given information, so if you send me your CV and other info on PRIYANKAK@ARINGO.com, I would love to connect you with our CEO who will be happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps.

All the best!

After almost 4 years in a tech startup dedicated to used cars, where I was 18th employee and saw it rise to a multinational company with presence in 8 countries, I'm looking for the next step in my career. My end goal is becoming a top leader in a tech company dedicated to sustainability, either through creating my own startup or applying to a company I believe in. To reach that goal, I think a passage through Consulting and then to other top tech companies will be beneficial to learn the skillset I need. The best way forward to reach my goals is through a top-tier MBA.

Hey
Here's an evaluation of your profile for MBA programs at Harvard, Wharton, Kellogg, Stanford, and Sloan:
GMAT Score:
Your GMAT score of 730 is competitive and falls within the range of the average scores for these top-tier MBA programs. It demonstrates your strong aptitude for the academic rigors of an MBA curriculum.

Work Experience:
Your experience at a tech startup, witnessing its growth from a small team to a multinational company with a presence in multiple countries, is impressive. Being one of the early employees and seeing the company's development can provide valuable insights and leadership opportunities. This experience can be a unique selling point in your application, showcasing your ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Your goal of becoming a top leader in a tech company dedicated to sustainability aligns well with the current trends and interests in the business world. The combination of your startup experience and passion for sustainability can make for a compelling narrative in your application.

Career Goals:
Your ambition to become a top leader in a tech company dedicated to sustainability demonstrates your long-term vision and potential impact in the field. It's great that you have clarity about your end goal and understand the potential benefits of gaining consulting experience to develop the skillset required for your future aspirations.

Target Schools:
Harvard, Wharton, Kellogg, Stanford, and Sloan are all highly prestigious business schools known for their rigorous programs and strong networks. However, admission to these schools is extremely competitive, and they receive a large number of applications each year. While your profile looks promising, it's important to remember that admission decisions are based on a holistic evaluation of various factors, including academic and professional achievements, leadership potential, personal qualities, and fit with the school's values and culture.

Make sure to craft compelling essays, secure strong letters of recommendation, and prepare well for interviews to present a well-rounded application that highlights your achievements, goals, and potential contributions to the MBA program and beyond.

Overall, with your strong GMAT score, solid work experience in a growing tech startup, and clear career goals, you have a competitive profile for these top-tier MBA programs. However, it's essential to invest time and effort in preparing a strong application to maximize your chances of admission.

If you have any additional questions about your profile or the program and would like to have a more thorough and personalized discussion with our top profile experts, please feel free to schedule a call with us. We would be more than happy to assist you.

Congratulations on your great progress in the startup and rising with it!
I think your GMAT is solid for the application from your background. The fact that the company became a MNC is also awesome! I think the transition from your background to the goal is the only part that is not clear from your post (are you already doing tech? I assume so) and if that's indeed the case, then you are not really changing much and not doing a big transition/leap - AdCom love people who stay within industry as it is easier to succeed and success is much more profound.

Final question is I guess about a consideration for a scholarship. You likely have a good shot at many of these programs but not clear about scholarship considerations. If you are going to be tempted by Ross with $$$ for example or Haas with $$, is it worth considering those as well potentially?

Final thought/advice, I would not shoot all my shots for the Top MBA in R1. I know this sounds crazy perhaps since R1 is often considered the best round but should you get a promotion, something else happens, or perhaps you realize you can improve your application or need to improve it due to dings across the board, you still have a shot left. Otherwise, you shift down to Tier 2 if you tried all Tier 1's so to speak.

Sorry about the wait with the reply over the weekend

After 5 years of sales and partnerships in the computer software industry, I would like to move to strategic consulting roles in the consulting industry. This short-term goal is aligned with my long-term goal of taking up strategic roles in a growing organization in the long term.

Hi hope this finds you well

your profile description lacks depth which makes it difficult to evaluate it for any particular school. All I would say is that if consulting is your focus, INSEAD and IESE would be your best picks. However, whether you meet the average candidate profile for these schools would require more discussion on your previous work experience. IIM A would require strong acads and a very high GMAT score. ISB can be a safe option provided you play your cards right and do not do badly on the interview.

5 years of experience in sales and biz dev in a software enterprise may not elucidate the right kind of impact you had in your company. While I understand that revenue growth is a big part of any company's success metric, a more software development kind or role or a growth strategy kind of role(such as product strategy) would seem more impactful for someone in a computer software company. If you do not pitch your experience in the right manner, you may miss your shot at some of the top-ranking schools in your list.

Feel free to reach out should you need further guidance

Hey Aniket,

You have a strong GPA along with a strong undergrad degree which will be strong positive. Since you are early career applicant, the MiM program will be a very good fit and will position you very well for the Investment Banking Analyst positions across global banks. London Business School MiM will be good choice and you can also think about the INSEAD MIM and the HEC MIM both of which are strong MIM programs and do open doors into London Banking along with regional Investment Banking in Paris, Berlin and Frankfurt.

Do reach out at info@thembaedge.com do have a more detailed discussion.

Thank you,

As a recent graduate of 2020 in Engineering, I have developed a strong foundation in technology and analytics. During my academic career, I was the Technical Student Head and the Vice President of CLUB in the year 2018-2019. I led several technical events, including workshops, seminars and also organized the projects, which focused on keeping the campus clean and environmentally friendly. I also participated in various extracurricular activities, such as basketball, and other social initiatives.

My work experience as a Data analyst for about 2 years at MNC has given me extensive exposure to ETL tools such as Talend Open Studio and Informatica. I am passionate about optimizing data processes, problem-solving, and achieving goals. My strong project coordination and management skills allowed me to successfully manage project plans and guide teams to achieve their goals.

In addition, I have completed several internships and workshops, including 60 days internship with (MEDIA & PRESS) and 30 days internship with an (NGO). These experiences have taught me valuable skills in communication, time management, and problem-solving.

Hey @PS_06,

Very limited information to really provide a feedback. Is there any particular reason why you have just 1 college shortlisted? We typically recommend applying to 5-6 colleges that are a good fit for your profile to have the maximum chances of success. Since you have a background in data do you enjoy your work? If yes, you can think of some really good Data Analytic, Business Analytics courses which intend to help you leverage data to solve business problems. These programs will be good fits for your profile given the lower work experience and lack of leadership and management experience.

Just sharing some prelim feedback based on the information that you have provided. Do reach out to us at info@thembaedge.com for a detailed discussion.

Cheers!

If my profile not Fit for top MBA then rather going for MIM , how about doing Master in FINTECH (Financial technology)? Is it worth doing it. Let me know what Info is required.

Wouldnt say that its not a fit, just that I will need additional information like your work profile, your undergraduate GPA, your test scores, your leadership experience, and career goals to make a more comprehensive analysis of your profile. Master of Fintech is a relatively newer course so would suggest to stick to courses that are well established courses in large business schools and have a track record. These elements will be critical since their network will help in recruitment and their track record in ensuring a superior classroom experience.

ok so my CGPA would be 7.5 and work profile i have mentioned in the above paragraph, GMAT still I need to give. I just wanted to know if my profile is suitable for top 50 MBA program or not, or else I need to look for other program.

With a good GMAT / GRE score and some good ECs, top50 MBA programs should definitely be in reach.

I would also quickly add that having a lot of internships and a lot of different options can be both valuable and harmful. If you have a lot of diverse unrelated items, it is going to be confusing but if you’re able to tie all of the internships and projects together then it will have a stronger more focused message and the fact that you doing a lot of things at the same time. Many people have diverse internships and that’s the result the end up excluding many of them from their résumé. Just fyi.

Hey @Mayankk95,

Rotman is an excellent choice for your profile. The school has a strong consulting and PM recruitment being in Downtown Toronto and will give you access to some top companies due to location. Its one of the strongest MBAs in Canada and has a very international cohort which enhances the entire class experience. Would suggest also applying to Richard Ivey, McGill which can be good bets for your Canadian MBA. There is a strong sustainability focus in Canada so that is an additional theme you can explore from a career point of view given your strong background in O&G.
With good test scores, strong essays and a good overall application, you will have a strong chance with these schools.

All the best! Do feel free to drop a msg at info@thembaedge.com if you wish to connect with us.

Thanks,

Hey @RrtMBA,

From the relatively brief information that you have provided, seems like your expectations and program shortlists are misfits. The EMBA program in the United States are designed for senior professionals typically 14years+ who want to accelerate their professional growth within their organization although some career transition is possible but its will be difficult. Thus, in your case being based out of India the US EMBA program wont be a fit given they typically happen on the weekend or weeknights along with your fulltime employment. Additionally, these programs dont sponsor student visas and hence you cant pursue them in full time mode.
Coming to your situation, a transition from technology consulting to PM is possible given inherent synergies between the functions and hence you can contemplate the IIM PGPx and ISB programs in India. IT consulting typically tends to be an overrepresented demographic in the applicant pool and hence you will need to get good test scores and expand your pool of International MBA programs, CMU Tepper, USC Marshall, McCombs, Emory can be good 2year MBA bets - 10 years is slightly on the higher side, but we have worked with candidates with more experience who have seen success with the 2 year formats. The 1 year formats are there for Kellogg, MITSF and Stanford MSx which you can selectively consider depending on your deeper profile and test scores.

Hope that was helpful? Do reach out to us at info@thembaedge.com for detailed discussion! We love coffee chats!

Thanks,

Hey RRSP1998,

You have got an interesting profile. Nepal tends to be underrepresented country across most business schools. Your academics are good, ECs are pretty strong however one weak element in your profile is the test scores. Median GMAT scores across most schools that you have shown interest in will be higher than 680. By putting in a dedicated effort in improving your GMAT score, you should have a shot at some really good MBA programs.
Since you have a background in entrepreneurship, will recommend Babson as one of the strongest programs for family business and entrepreneurship. Do take a note that you will need to craft a strong story and showcase your achievements as an entrepreneur to really convince adcoms. While most schools are supportive of entrepreneurs, there can be some challenges associated with respect to the application process such as recommendations, showcasing your personal development along the journey, quantifiable achievements and impact of your role. So keep them in mind while crafting your story and your long term aspirations.
VC roles with your background maybe a bit of stretch, would recommend gaining some solid business experience and maybe pursuing your entrepreneurial goals back in Nepal post the program.

Reach out to us at info@thembaedge.com to have a detailed discussion on your background and a free profile evaluation. We love coffee chats!
