Planning to apply for 2026 intake

Demographics: 28y, Male, Indian
Grad CGPA - 7.2/10

Co-authored a research paper in college, won Best Indian Robotics Student award by IEEE.

Work Ex - 6 years
Developer at Infosys (2019 - 2022)
- Solely developed vaccination platform that helped over 150k employees+family members get vaccinated in 3 countries
- Got promoted and then developed Hiring platfom that reduced hiring time by 30% and is currently being used to hire new candidates. (approx hiring figures by platform were 15k+ in initial 4 months, I left post that)
- Also took active part in collaborating with multiple teams to generate new process that reduced 20% of overall product lifecycle time.

In 2021, I wanted to shift to Design as I wanted to bridge design+development. Took up a specialisation course parallel to job.

Globant (2021 - current)
- Started exploring tech and design mix, created several POC's on AR, Metaverse and AI. Gave 2 talks at DesignNXT on them and 3 internal talks to upskill the team. Lead me to start a new verticle of AR pod in the studio. Won innovator of the quarter.
- Promoted and worked with 2 major clients (One being one of the largest cloud storage platform, other being one of the "Big Four" accounting firm)
- Superheaded creation of design system of them which has 150k inserts weekly, Streamlined collaboration between team by design tokens reducing delivery time by 25%
- Part of Globant's social media team creating strategies to boost instagram handle.

Post-MBA goal - Product management, Brand Management

Aspiration - Want to build strategies, and lead products combining tech and design. Also want to aspire people and teach them about new tech.

Kindly help me with a reasonable feedback for my school selection and also a guide on my target EA/GMAT scores as Im planning to give EA first and later GMAT due to timing constraints.

Thank you in advance <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/1f642.png" class="forumSmileyItem" width="20" height="20" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, I see a rich and differentiated profile with a compelling blend of tech, design, innovation, and leadership. Your impact at Infosys and Globant is clearly tangible, building high-scale platforms, launching an AR vertical, and leading design systems for major clients shows both depth and direction. Add to that your IEEE award, public talks, and social media strategy work, you are clearly someone who thinks beyond the code.

Your post-MBA goals in product or brand management feel aligned and realistic, especially given your aspiration to sit at the intersection of design, tech, and strategy. The teaching/mentorship angle adds a nice layer of purpose.

Your GPA looks a bit low and should be compensated with a strong EA score. You’ll need a strong EA or GMAT score to balance that out.

School selection looks solid.
Ross, Haas, Tepper, Anderson, Judge = very well aligned with your design + product focus.
Columbia, Kellogg, Stern = more competitive, but still feasible with a strong test and sharp storytelling.
HEC Paris, Judge = slightly more flexible on GPA and excellent for innovation and brand strategy.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for top MBA programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances— happy to help!
No pressure, no strings—just helpful insights on where you stand and how you can strengthen your chances.

Thank you for sharing your detailed profile @mdkher. You bring a good foundation in technology, product development, and innovation, which is highly valued by top MBA programs, especially those focused on technology leadership and product management. Your transition from development at Infosys to tech and design innovation at Globant demonstrates not only technical expertise but also creativity and leadership potential. Initiatives like leading AR/Metaverse projects, speaking at DesignNXT, and winning the "Innovator of the Quarter" award highlight your ability to drive impact and differentiate yourself.

That said, your undergraduate GPA of 7.2/10 is on the lower side, particularly for competitive programs like Columbia, Kellogg, Haas, and Ross. To offset this, it will be critical to aim for a strong GMAT Focus score. While your plan to take the EA first is understandable because of timing reasons, keep in mind that some of your target schools, especially Columbia, Kellogg, and Haas, might prefer or expect a GMAT/GRE score for full-time MBA programs. For your demographic (Indian, male, tech background), a GMAT Focus score of 685+ would make you competitive. It is suggested to prepare for the EA, but following through with the GMAT afterward can strengthen your application.

In terms of school selection, programs like HEC Paris, Cambridge Judge, Tepper, and Ross align well with your goals in product management and tech strategy. Given your interest in blending design and technology, Kellogg’s MBAi program and Haas can be good fits, though they will be stretch options depending on your final test score and application execution. You can also explore ESADE, Imperial, or Rotterdam, which may be slightly more flexible regarding academic history.

For your short-term goal of moving into product management or brand management, your tech and design background positions you well. However, schools will expect clarity on your post-MBA career path, so refine your goals to clearly show how an MBA will bridge your current experience with your aspirations to lead product strategy, combining technology and design. You can take a look at this blog on How to bring collinearity in your post-MBA goals? and success story.

Ensure your professional achievements are quantified with clear impact, and build strong, authentic essays that emphasize your innovation journey, leadership growth, and aspiration to inspire others. Consider leveraging your extracurricular activities, especially your public speaking and internal leadership, to enhance your application profile.

You have strong elements in your profile, the key will be building a compelling, cohesive application narrative supported by a competitive test score. If you'd like any support in crafting essays, resumes, and LORs, we’d be glad to help. Feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Cheers!

Hi there, thanks for the profile.

You’re in a strong spot with 6 years across Infosys and Globant, clear upward mobility, and standout design-tech innovations (AR/AI POCs, vertical launch, talks).

What elevates this is your blended goal: tech + brand management, rarely paired but feasible if pitched as “product leadership with brand strategy insight.” For programs like NYU Tech MBA and Kellogg MBAi, this positioning is a strategic fit.

Your CGPA (7.2/10) is workable for most schools, especially with a solid EA (aim 158+ overall) or classic GMAT (target 700+ to break into M7).

Tepper, Stern, and UCLA are well-aligned; Judge and HEC are strong European picks, especially with your innovation edge. Just don’t go too broad: pick 5–6 schools that align with tech/design intersection.

Let’s frame your story into a hybrid narrative that stands out.

Hello Sarthak, some more details can help assess your profile better:

1. Which undergrad university did you study in, and how were the grades? On the GMAT, what was your sectional split, and was it your first attempt i.e. do you foresee an improvement if you were to retake?

2. Regarding the professional arc, which company/ companies have you worked in, and what was the nature of your roles, any career progression etc.? And what are your directional career goals post MBA?

3. Anything on the extracurriculars side?

Hope this helps provide some direction on the angles to think of. Feel free to reach out through the link below for a deeper discussion.

Hello Sarthak Arora,

IESE is a strong fit given your analytics-to-product transition plan, but your 655 GMAT Focus (91st percentile) is borderline. I'd suggest pushing toward 675–685 if you want better chances, especially for scholarships.

Academically, your GPA is low, but you're already tackling that with MBA Math: smart move. Your career impact at SAP and Pharmeasy, combined with global exposure and pro bono consulting, gives your profile good depth.

Let’s connect to refine your PM pitch and fine-tune how you present your academic and test weaknesses.

Hi Sarthak Arora
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, you present a strong narrative of career progression across both startup and corporate environments, with clear impact in data driven roles and a thoughtful pivot toward PM. Your experience demonstrates your ability to work cross functionally, influence business decisions, and collaborate internationally, skills highly relevant to your post-MBA goals.

Your GMAT score is decent however your GPA looks low. Consider proactively addressing how you’ve improved your quantitative skills since undergrad. Your pro bono consulting experience adds a valuable leadership and impact oriented angle, showing commitment beyond work. Your goal of transitioning to PM in tech/AI is credible given your analytics background and global exposure.

Do you have any product-related exposure? This will help reinforce the feasibility of your post-MBA transition. Are you open to considering schools like Rotterdam and ESADE.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for top MBA programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances— happy to help!

I’m working as an associate at Goldman Sachs on the Market Risk Analytics and Reporting team. Over the last few years, I’ve worked extensively on regulatory projects such as CCAR and FRTB benchmarking, and managed risk evaluation for the firm’s mortgages business across Asia and EMEA. I lead a team responsible for validating data used in VaR computation models and frequently interact with global stakeholders, which has helped sharpen my analytical and communication skills.

Outside of work, I’ve always gravitated towards collaborative leadership roles—be it leading IIT Hyderabad’s student body as Student Welfare Secretary or mentoring students through the Buddy Program and Sunshine, the campus counseling cell. I’m also a CFA Level 2 candidate and have pursued a minor in Economics during undergrad.

Post-MBA, my short-term goal is to transition into a venture capital firm, ideally in the US or UK. Long term, I hope to pivot into a leadership role, where I can combine my quantitative background, leadership experience, and interest in business storytelling to guide strategic capital decisions and shape high-impact investment strategies.

Hello Shruti, thanks for sharing your profile. Some thoughts and clarifications:

1. Your GMAT score, GPA and CFA Level-2 are strong academic angles. Which university did you attend, and is there precedence of undergrad alum in your target programs?

2. Your professional arc is strong given the risk/ analytics experience, GS brand and international projects. Has there been any promotions and/ or progression in your roles so far? I'd like to understand the nature of your role and projects more to assess better.

3. Your post-MBA goal sounds logical, but would need a very compelling narrative covering your experiences, transferable skills, and how those would allow you to break into the fiercely competitive VC market. It'd also be prudent to have a higher-probability plan-B. Overall, the career goals need more research and brainstorming.

4. Your extracurricular activities in undergrad sound good. Are there any activities you've been involved in post undergrad? Recency and consistency would be key here.

5. Your target list of schools looks too long - I'd suggest prioritizing a mix of 6-8 schools, categorized into Ambitious/ Reach/ Safe buckets, based on your profile, career goals and other personal and financial parameters. Top B-schools for finance careers are here FYI: https://admitstreet.com/blog/best-busin ... e-careers/

Hope this helps some. Feel free to reach out through the link below for a deeper discussion.

Hey Shruti,
Vashi here from LilacBuds.

You have a very promising MBA candidacy, especially for top global programs. Your strong academics, elite work experience, and well-defined goals make you a competitive applicant.
Academically, your 705 GMAT score is solid and your 9.2/10 GPA from IIT Hyderabad demonstrates excellent intellectual ability. The addition of a minor in Economics and your CFA Level 2 candidacy add further credibility to your finance-focused profile.
Your professional experience at Goldman Sachs in Market Risk Analytics stands out. Leading a team and engaging with global stakeholders showcases your leadership, communication, and analytical strengths.
Your career goals—a post-MBA transition into venture capital in the US or UK—are ambitious but realistic. Your background in risk, regulation, and structured products provides a strong base for this pivot. Over time, your goal of moving into a strategic leadership role in VC aligns well with your current strengths and aspirations.
For school fit, M7 schools like Stanford, Wharton, Kellogg, Booth, and MIT Sloan are all within reach. Your combination of analytical rigor, leadership, and clarity of goals aligns especially well with Sloan and Wharton. Outside M7, schools like Haas, Yale SOM, UCLA Anderson, and Darden offer excellent pathways into VC.
In the UK/EU, LBS is a top choice with great VC access. Oxford Saïd and Cambridge Judge also provide strong academic rigor and growing VC ecosystems.

To further strengthen your application, consider gaining some exposure to startups or venture capital—through competitions, side projects, or networking. This will help reinforce your post-MBA goal and demonstrate commitment to the space.
Overall, you’re a high-potential candidate for top MBA programs. With well-crafted essays and strategic school selection, you can position yourself very well for success.
We’d be happy to help you strategically shortlist schools and shape your overall narrative to enhance both your admission and scholarship chances. Let me know if you’d like to schedule a call to discuss this further!

Hi Shruti chepuri
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, I see a strong mix of technical, analytical, and leadership skills. With 4 years at Goldman Sachs in Market Risk Analytics and global stakeholder engagement is highly relevant and positions you well for a career pivot to VC, especially as someone who understands both risk and financial modeling at a granular level.

Your academic record is solid with a 9.2 GPA from IIT Hyderabad, a minor in Economics, and ongoing CFA Level 2 preparation, all of which will resonate well with finance focused MBA programs. Your goal to move into VC post-MBA is ambitious but credible, especially if you can show early exposure to startups, investment ecosystems, or relevant side projects. Your GMAT FE of 705 is competitive.

Do you have any startup exposure (investments, advising, competitions) that can strengthen your VC story?

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for top MBA programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances— happy to help!

Hi Shruti— Let me be the bearer of some tough news for you. Please do your due diligence—it is rare that an international MBA gets sponsored for H1B by VC firms in the US. Do not make this your Plan A, as far as the US is concerned. The rest about your profile has been quoted by many others here.

Hello Shruti Chepuri,

Impressive profile

Your GMAT Focus score of 705 is solid. Your 9.2 GPA, CFA Level 2 candidacy, and impactful leadership roles add excellent weight, especially since you're targeting venture capital. You’ll need to craft your narrative around how your analytics background transitions into VC, emphasizing investment intuition and deal experience.

Given your goal to pivot into VC, your work experience aligns well but you should consider supplementing with internship or VC-related projects during the MBA. Showcase any diligence, deal involvement, or storytelling-driven work that mirrors investment evaluation. Without this, top schools may view you as lacking direct VC prep, so demonstrate intentional pre-MBA steps.

If you’d like to explore strategizing your retake, school list tiering, and VC prep, scheduling a one-to-one free call would be valuable.

Thank you for sharing your profile @Y*****. You bring 8 years of high-value experience in Venture Capital, which is a good foundation for top global MBA programs. Schools like Booth, Columbia, Wharton, Stanford, and Harvard actively seek applicants from the VC ecosystem, particularly those who have been involved in deal sourcing, portfolio management, or strategic advisory roles to startups. Your professional background positions you well, especially if your role has included leadership, cross-border exposure, or collaboration with investors and founders.

That said, your current GMAT Focus score of 685 may be slightly low for M7 schools, particularly for competitive applicant pools like finance or VC. Generally, successful applicants to programs like Wharton, Harvard, and Stanford have average score range around 730. Your profile shows a clear post-MBA goal of staying within the Venture Capital industry. This can be seen positively by admissions committees, as they value applicants with a defined, realistic path that leverages both their pre-MBA experience and the program's offerings. You should focus your essays on how you plan to elevate your strategic decision-making skills and build an international network to enhance your VC capabilities, rather than using the MBA as a pivot tool.

Leadership is another key factor. Top schools like HBS and Stanford GSB emphasize leadership potential beyond technical expertise. Make sure to highlight situations where you've driven meaningful change, whether through investment decisions, supporting founders, managing teams, or influencing your firm's strategy. If your VC role has been more execution-focused, finding leadership angles within your professional or extracurricular activities is critical.

Before finalizing your school list, we'd encourage you to reflect on the following:
1. Have you had meaningful international exposure through your VC work, such as cross-border investments or partnerships?
2. Are you strictly focused on U.S. programs, or open to top-tier European MBAs like INSEAD or LBS?
3. How do you envision the MBA transforming your leadership or global strategic perspective?

We would be happy to learn more about your profile. Feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Cheers!

While 685 GMAT FE (730-740 classic equivalent) is a decent score, it's essential to have a strong overall application profile that aligns well with the school's values to enhance your chances in the applicant pool. Highly selective programs, like HSW, Booth, and MIT Sloan, often report average GMAT scores in the 720-740 range on the classic GMAT. Please feel free to book a session, and we can discuss more details about your journey, academics, extracurriculars, and professional experiences. Happy to help...

Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, a 685 FE falls on the lower end for your target schools. Are you up for a retake? A score close to 715-725 would be crucial. Hello @Shark76, thanks for sharing your details. Some thoughts and clarifications:

1. Your GMAT score and GPA sound good, how was your undergrad pedigree and is there precedence of alum in your target schools? For M7 schools like Columbia, Booth, and Wharton, a 20+ point improvement in the GMAT would strengthen your chances.

2. Your professional background is interesting given the 5+ years' experience in real-estate financing. Were there promotions in your role? While formal leadership roles aren't mandatory, it'd be important to showcase leadership traits, in addition to the transferable skills to your post MBA goals.

3. Transitioning to IB is challenging (for anyone) given the fierce competition, but since you have a financing background (in Canada), it may help your case. Having said that, make sure to research the career paths, which firms hire, for which roles etc. so your profile can be positioned well both while recruiting and in the MBA applications.

4. You haven't mentioned extracurricular activities. Have you been involved in any?

Check out this article for the top MBA programs for finance careers (along with hiring stats): https://admitstreet.com/blog/best-busin ... e-careers/

Hope this helps some. Feel free to reach out through the link below for a detailed discussion.

Hi Shark76,

Your 675 GMAT Focus score puts you on shaky ground for M7 schools. For Wharton, Booth, and Columbia, you're 40+ points under median.

However, your commercial real estate finance track, with $500 M+ deal volume and client leadership, carries real weight.

You’ve shown strong execution skills, but the lack of team management might hold you back unless offset by standout extracurriculars or high-impact leadership.

For investment banking pivot, the core MBA hiring banks will care about both your GMAT and undergrad rigour. Cornell Johnson and Yale are reasonable shots; Columbia and Wharton become real options only if you can push the GMAT above 705+.

Let’s dig deeper into your profile and school fit: schedule a 1-on-1 so we can build a strategy that maximizes your admit and scholarship chances.

Thank you for sharing your profile in such detail @Shark76. Your 5.5 years of work experience in a top financial services firm in Canada, leading deals worth over $500M and managing a diverse portfolio of 50+ client groups, speaks volumes about your capabilities and industry credibility. Additionally, your GPA of 3.7 reflects consistent academic performance, which should reassure admissions committees about your ability to handle rigorous coursework.

One area that slightly weakens your profile is your GMAT Focus score of 675. While this score is decent, it does fall on the lower end for ultra-competitive schools like Wharton, Columbia, and Booth. If you have the bandwidth, it would be worth retaking the test to aim for a score in the 695+ range to boost your competitiveness, especially if you’re aiming for merit-based scholarships. That said, strong essays, recommendations, and a compelling narrative would also be important.

Another area to consider strengthening is formal leadership experience. While you’ve shown initiative in driving internal process improvements and leading deal execution, top MBA programs also look for direct team management or mentoring. Suppose you can provide examples of influencing stakeholders, managing junior colleagues informally, or stepping into leadership roles during high-stakes situations. In that case, you should highlight these in your application essays and interviews. Admissions committees increasingly value leadership in all forms, not just in title. You can take a look at these blogs on How to Exhibit Different Forms of Leadership in Your MBA Application and Extracurricular Activities for MBA

Your goal of pivoting into investment banking with a real estate focus post-MBA seems logical. Long-term ambitions in management and leadership within real estate finance are ambitious yet realistic. Talk to your target schools' alumni, collect more insights, as it would be helpful for you while crafting your applications and building a good network, too. Schools like Columbia, Wharton, and Cornell Johnson offer curricular and networking opportunities to support this path. Yale SOM and Berkeley Haas, though more generalist, can be positioned effectively if you tie your goals to social impact, sustainability, or innovative urban development, areas these schools strongly emphasize.

To summarize, your candidacy looks promising, particularly because of the depth of your deal experience and focused career vision. To maximize your chances, we recommend strengthening your GMAT score if possible, framing your leadership experiences clearly, and customizing your school selection strategy based on each program’s strengths in finance and real estate. If you'd like a more detailed school-by-school breakdown or essay strategy session, we’d be happy to help further. We'd be happy to learn more about your profile and journey. If you'd like, feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Cheers!
