Hello,

Thank you for sharing your profile.

You bring a solid foundation with work experience and the degree.

That consistency in your story is a strength. However, with a 655 GMAT Focus and applying in Round 4, you're navigating a tough admissions cycle. Programs like McGill will evaluate your second master’s closely, and you'll need to show why an MBA now, is essential for your trajectory.

Let’s connect 1-on-1 to sharpen your positioning, address any red flags, and ensure your application makes a compelling case, especially given the late round and second-master context.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your profile.

With a stellar GPA and 5 years in technical software, you're well-positioned, but the 675 GMAT Focus is below INSEAD’s norm, especially risky in Round 3.

Consider a retake to strengthen your case for a competitive tech PM pivot in Asia.

Let’s connect 1-on-1 to craft a strategy that maximizes your admit odds and positions your PM pivot effectively.

I come from a background in medicinal chemistry/pharmaceutical industry, where I’ve developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills through roles in Research Scientist. Over time, I realized that while I enjoy the technical aspects, I’m increasingly drawn to strategic decision-making and the broader impact of business in healthcare. In the short term, post-MBA, I aim to transition into a consulting role at a top-tier firm, focusing on life sciences or healthcare strategy.

Long-term, my goal is to move into a leadership position, such as a Product Manager or Director of Strategy, within a pharmaceutical or cosmeceutical company. I hope to drive innovation in product development and commercialization, especially in areas that improve patient outcomes or enhance wellness through science-backed solutions. I'm particularly interested in opportunities within Southeast Asia, where I see dynamic growth in healthcare and consumer health markets, and where my multicultural background can add value.
I also want to apply for MBA in China (Tsinghua and Peking University) and Hong Kong (HKU) but these schools are not here

Hi. Healthcare consulting is a good goal to leverage if you have the background.

Keep in mind, consulting requires a candidate to be polished and both spoken quick on their feet and have strung client readiness skills. You need to interview well.

But to get to the consulting interview, you hopefully needs to have strong brands on your resume to get picked from the multitude of applicants. If you have those, that’s fantastic but if not, that’s a potential snag for both recruiting and admissions....

If you speak Mandarin, I think it could be worth looking at Chinese programs but if not recruiting can be tricky as few companies want to hire candidates without language skills.

Hey, thanks for sharing your background.

Honestly, your story is quite aligned for INSEAD and schools like Tsinghua and HKU. You're building a food pivot with a sound pharmaceutical track, strong GPA, and healthcare consulting goals. However, a 635 GMAT Focus is a bit soft even for INSEAD, especially as the median is higher (~690-710 classic equivalent). I'd suggest retaking if you can push closer to that range. Just make sure your essays clearly tie your technical expertise to your future business leadership ambitions.

Let's work together to sharpen your story and boost your chances at INSEAD and top Asian MBAs: a focused 1-on-1 call can make all the difference.

Thank you for sharing your profile @Hoang Anh Pham ! With 5 years of work experience in the pharmaceuticals and biotech sector, a good academic record (GPA 3.57), and a clear, industry-aligned career vision, you seem to have a good foundation. Your narrative, moving from technical research into strategic decision-making roles, can be attractive, for global schools like INSEAD and Asia-focused programs. Schools value applicants who understand how their technical skills can translate into broader business impact.

There are a few areas where strategic improvements could significantly boost your chances. The GMAT Focus score of 635 is slightly low. While it’s not a dealbreaker, especially if the rest of your application shines, retaking the GMAT Focus to aim for 20, 30+ points would make you considerably more competitive and open up better scholarship opportunities. For Tsinghua, Peking, and HKU, your score is closer to the average, though a stronger score would still enhance your profile.

Agreed with the feedback shared above by bb ! Regarding your work experience, 5 years is ideal for INSEAD and most Asian programs. What’s crucial now is showcasing leadership and impact in your roles. Admissions committees are also interested in moments where you led projects, influenced decisions, or demonstrated strategic thinking. Even if you haven’t held formal management titles, examples of informal leadership (mentoring, cross-functional collaborations, initiating improvements) will be critical. You can take a look at this BLOG on Master your MBA Application

Looking ahead, we recommend a few strategies: aim to retake the GMAT Focus if possible, prioritize Round 1 applications to maximize your chances, and focus your essays heavily on leadership stories and strategic thinking. Be sure to clearly articulate your passion for driving innovation in healthcare and highlight how your multicultural background uniquely positions you to succeed in Southeast Asia’s markets. Consider communicating with school alumni for more insights.

Before you start writing essays, it would be helpful to reflect on some key points: where you led a project or influenced key decisions? This will be the heart of your leadership narrative. Would you be open to targeting top healthcare consulting firms beyond MBB?

Genuinely excited about what you can achieve through this MBA journey. If you'd like, feel free to connect. Let's chat.

Hi @Hoang Anh Pham
Thanks for sharing your profile!

To begin with, you’ve got a solid GPA and your work experience too makes you well-suited for global MBA programs. Pharmaceuticals/biotech is a niche field so you will get brownie points for a diverse profile. You’ve mentioned enjoying technical aspects of your work as a Research Scientist but if you can elaborate on what exactly you work involved, we can better estimate how to position it in your applications. Moreover, its interesting to read you career goals as you’ve carefully though about your career progression. Your short- and long-term goals run parallel with each other as you mentioned about working in a consulting profile and then stepping up to a Product Manager or Director role. The industries you are targeting and your reasoning for the same are also well aligned with your overall profile. But to make your goals more appealing to the AdCom, try to explain how the particular region you’re studying in would benefit your goals. For example, when applying to Tsinghua/Guanghua (Peking), try to articulate your interests in China-ASEAN healthcare strategies. Speak of some trends you have observed in these regions with regards to patient healthcare and how you will adapt to it with your MBA knowledge. This shows that you are well aware of the market and the contributions you can make to it.

Now we come to your GMAT score. You have a decent score but its competitiveness depends on each college. For Insead, your current score will not make an effective cut as they typically expect in the range of 680+. If you want a good chance here, you will have to bolster your score to the 675-700 range. When it comes to Tsinghua, Peking, and HKU, they will mostly accept but if you need a scholarship, then try improving your score by another 30-40 points. Also, for these schools, it would be best if you have strong language proficiency in Mandarin or else you will face obstacles during the recruitment phase. This is not an absolute but just something better to have.

Overall, if INSEAD is your primary focus, would advise to retake the GMAT and push your score. Wishing you all the best.
We’d love to offer a 1-on-1 profile evaluation to dive deeper into your strengths, talk through your fit across schools, and co-create a tailored application game plan!

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, I’ve spent the last 4 years working across high-growth consumer startups and fintechs. My experience spans Strategic Finance, Category Management, and full P&L ownership — across Series A to Series D companies. I’ve led multi-functional projects, launched new apparel categories, and currently head strategic finance for a $10Mn neobanking vertical at a top Indian fintech. I’ve been promoted twice in 3.5 years, and have worked closely with founders and CXOs- including reporting directly to the CEO in one role and currently to the CFO. My MBA recommendations are from both.

While the growth has been rewarding, I’m now seeking wider problem-solving exposure across industries and markets — which is why I’m targeting strategy consulting post-MBA. My strength lies in solving ambiguous business problems and connecting the dots between finance, product, and customer. Long term, I want to scale a consumer business globally or build my own venture in the retail-tech space.

I’m targeting Europe and Southeast Asia post-MBA, and applying to INSEAD and a few 2-year US programs. ISB is a backup

GRE: 326 (Q165, V161).
Post-MBA target: Strategy Consulting (Consumer/Retail), long-term: GM/founder path.

Decent scores and a good profile. A lot will depend on your narratives and the plausibility of your post-MBA career goals (ST and LT). An Indian passport is generally a hindrance to the cross-border travel involved in Europe for consultants. Do keep that in mind.

Hello,

This is a well-rounded, high-impact profile with a clear upward trajectory, impressive CXO-level exposure, and strong narrative depth. Your GRE score (326) is good, and the breadth of experience across fintech and consumer startups will resonate well with INSEAD’s case-driven, global leadership model.

Your undergrad GPA (7.9) could be the only minor concern, but your CA and fast-tracked career progression should offset it.

For MBB goals in Europe or SE Asia, INSEAD is a great strategic fit. Still, your application narrative must nail the “why consulting” and show global adaptability to maximize your odds and scholarship chances across top programs. Let’s refine that together.

I have completed my Bachelors in Engineering with CGPA 8.54/10.

After graduation, I worked in a coaching institute and prepared for civil services exam for 2 years.

Then I took up the job in Public Sector Bank.
I have 7.5 years of experience in Public Sector Bank in Foreign Exchange and Trade Finance.

So my total work experience will be 9.5 years.

My GMAT FE Score is apparently less, I have already attempted twice and it is 595.

I am planning to apply for one year MBA programs in Europe and Singapore for 2025 Intake.
I would require suggestions on profile shift after MBA and probable schools I can try for.

And I would also want to know, if my age will be an impediment, presently I am 30 years old.

It is a bit of a tricky GMAT score but looking at your work experience, it may be OK/good enough.
For Europe age is a good thing, so 30 years (even in the US) is not really an issue or a problem. 32 or 33 would be getting up there. Your biggest considerations will be your GMAT score but I think it is OK. These programs are not super concerned about the scores as they don't release averages to anyone.

P.S. It would improve your chances if you make your post-MBA goal very achievable and easy to transition to. You have to think about how you will find a job and what will be the source of that job offer. You should not count on the school delivering it to you (they prefer that you don't as that puts expectations on them to deliver and perform in the future, something they can't predict) so you want to emphasize as much as possible that you have identified where you want to work, already networking with people, and almost have that job in your pocket, just need this small formality of an MBA. Hope that makes sense.

I have received offer from EDHEC Global MBA and awaiting decision from Mannheim , SDA Bocconi and RSM as well. I am looking to transition into Consulting or Finance. Can you help with your insights, which is a better school for finance / consulting. Because the EDHEC scholarship deadline is nearer and I have requested to the school, to extend the scholarship deadline because others said I would receive the outcome by Mid - May.

Hi @vaishmahe , I hope you are doing well! With 9.5 years of professional experience, including 7.5 years in retail banking with expertise in foreign exchange and trade finance, and a strong academic background (GPA 8.5/10 in engineering), you bring significant depth to an MBA application. Your diverse journey, including a stint preparing for civil services and transitioning into banking, adds a unique dimension to your profile. However, your GMAT score of 595 may pose a challenge for competitive one-year MBA programs in Europe and Singapore. To strengthen your candidacy, focus on clearly articulating your leadership experiences, professional achievements, and post-MBA goals in finance. If feasible, consider retaking the GMAT aiming for a higher score or exploring schools that take a holistic view of applications. Highlighting your maturity, adaptability, and readiness for senior roles will be critical to overcoming perceived challenges like age or test scores. You can take a look at this Blog.

If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a 1:1 call with you to discuss your profile in detail. Please feel free to schedule a profile evaluation call according to your convenience.

Hi vaishmahe
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your GMAT score is below the average for schools like INSEAD, HEC Paris, and NUS. However, your 9+ years of experience and unique perspective can help your profile stand out amidst the pool of applicants. Age shouldn't be a barrier. Also, have you had any international exposure or led impactful projects which might catch the eye of the adcoms?

Hiring or not hiring a consultant depends on how well can you write your application on your own. I would recommend Nirvan from applicant x, he is amazing at what he does. Please DM me, I will share more details there.
