Yeah I’m hearing of internships being cancelled now, and full time offers being postponed.

No one can predict whether everything can be stabilised by Sept 2020 and what the economy will be like in 2021 when you graduate..

I’d say it’s a gamble enrolling now unless you opt for the 2 year MBA

Thanks for sharing! Some of the US companies have also canceled internships but in return provided or will be providing a FT offer next year for hiring (which is not a terrible trade off but it does deprive one of the summer internship income).

Are you done with your first year? You staying in the UK or back in Singapore?

Hey BB, I haven’t heard of that but that’s awesome!

I’m on my last semester of MBA1. Currently looking for an internship as well but am aligning my expectations to the current situation. Back in Singapore for now.

How are you? Hope everything’s fine on your end!

Thanks for asking. I am doing ok and adjusting to the new world. I work in hospitality and we basically have shut down thousands of hotels ... and I was furloughed this week for at least 90 days... which is fine if it is indeed 90 days or I get to go back to work even in the next 6months.... but different if everything goes to hell.

How are hotels doing in Singapore? Are they still open? We have been hearing good things in the US press about Singapore handling corona virus. ...

Ah, sorry to hear... it’s a tough time for everyone but we will eventually get past it.

hotels are being used as quarantine facilities for those returning to Singapore. Other than that, it’s not open. Our situation is relatively stable, good point is that we are not at max capacity yet (last I heard) but bad point is that the number of unlinked cases and local transmissions are increasing. That’s why we’re in lockdown till 4 May, with possible extension.

Same here for Washington State/Seattle - everyone in Lockdown until May 4th and the general feeling is that it will likely get extended to May 30th based on all the viral modeling. I don't think anyone wants to be out of work until June 1st but the models quoted by NYT and WSJ from gov/cdc say that cases jump quite a bit if quarantine is broken before May 30... that's almost 2 more months. I think things will become normal even with quarantine. Humans adapt to anything (some even claim we are like a virus or a parasite, I think I am quoting agent Smith from Matrix now, must be getting late ) but the truth is, it does not take us long to adapt... things starting to be routine. I hope recruiting and internship works out for you!!!

Curious article in FT about a student revolt about the MBA fees.... curious how this ends. Sorry to hijack this Cambridge discussion :shh:

https://www.ft.com/content/d093664c-038 ... 7230e2104f

MBA students demand tuition fee refunds over campus closures.

MBA students at some of the world’s leading business schools are demanding a refund on their tuition fees as compensation for campus closures and the switch to what they view as inferior online learning.

A petition circulating among students at The Wharton School, where fees alone for a two-year MBA degree can exceed $160,000, has received close to 900 signatures, equivalent to a single year’s intake.

At Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, where the two-year MBA programme costs $150,000 in fees, an online petition has been signed by the equivalent to 80 per cent of the class. Students have made similar demands at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and at Insead.

Hi chand2211, those I've heard are LBS, Ross and Booth but these are pertaining to internships only

Not just these schools. INSEAD has a student spearheading this as well :D It's understandable for them, 1 year program and barely seeing their classmates... must suck

Also thanks bb for the well wishes! sorry for the late reply! I hope so too, but realistically, getting one is slim in this environment.

I have the petition made by Harvard students to the dean. They argue how the online experience ruined the case method and the networking.

Another example from RSM, students also demand the same like other MBA students, The school argued that they have spent money on online infrastructure but they kept somehow the door open for conversation between students and the dean until further decision.

Hi All,

Congratulations to everyone who has made it to Cambridge this year. Wanted to know your thoughts if you're going ahead with the 2020 Admit or have tried to defer it given the short duration of the program.

Thanks in advance

I would support this decision for 1 year program because the economy will under recovery for some time. Also UK still suffer from its Brexit. This will complicate the situation for job market, IMHO.
