Hi,
So, I am not really sure how this works, but I am a very serious candidate for GMAT. My target score is to clock around 750, since I need to apply to the top 10. I see people writing V37, does that mean they are actually getting 37 questions right out of 41 in Verbal? Because, if that's the case, I am supposedly doomed.
I have trouble with Verbal, something that peeves me, since I have clocked a 700/800 on GRE once, and 99.2 percentile in Verbal CAT (the Indian version of GMAT).
Critical Reasoning: I am following the Manhattan Strategy Guide for CR . As of now, I have completed the problem sets of Manhattan and have attempted the OG questions. My accuracy rate for CR is around 75 - 80%. So, is it a good accuracy rate? I would love to take it up to 90%, if not 100, so well, any suggestions?
Sentence Correction: I followed the SC Grail for SC and I am right now, working on the Manhattan strategy guide. My SC accuracy rate is a steadfast 70%, which according to me is pretty low. A friend of mine, wrote the GMAT last year and got a 740. According to him, SC questions shouldn't go wrong. Is he correct ?
RC: I am pretty much dependent on the novels and the newspaper that I read. Would start practicing this section soon.
I will write my GMAT on the 6th September and really, really want to fix these issues.

First of all, do NOT feel that you have to get a 750 to get into a top 10 school. Average GMAT scores are going higher, but what I continue to hear is that super high test scores are not a guarantee or even a requirement of admission. You should maximize your score and realize that the GMAT is only part of the equation. Stated another way: you can still get into a top 10 school without a super high GMAT score.
With that out of the way, I will say that the GMAT is one part of the application that you can improve in a relatively short period of time. Your % accuracy is not a great predictor of score because your score is highly dependent on the difficulty of the questions. The best way to approximate your score is to take a practice CAT (we have practice exams that you have access to from purchasing our strategy guides).
Here is some general advice:
SC has some nice set rules that can be mastered. Learn how the GMAT applies grammar rules and deals with issues of meaning and you will be fine.
CR required solid process and a good understanding for logic. Learn the different question types and get plenty of practice.
RC requires good reading skills (focus on structure over details on the first read and read for detail when asked) and lots of practice - start now.
Complete a practice exam and let us know how it went.

Dear GMAT Aspirant,
First of all, check these links to get a sense of the scoring scheme of GMAT:

You get Verbal and Quant scores ranging from 0 to 60. These are raw scores and they combine to give you the total 200 - 800 score.
Q48 or V37 etc are raw scores on the 0 - 60 scale. They are related to how many questions you answered correctly but they do not reflect the number of correct answers. Your raw scores depend on many factors including number of question answered correctly, the level of questions answered, whether the section was completed on time etc.
With a 99.2%ile on CAT Verbal, you should be set in RC. I don't see you facing any problems in that area.
CR, again, should not be hard. Our CR book discusses the various question types and strategies you should use to handle them. A thorough read of it should be all you need to get a 90% accuracy in CR. Unfortunately, CAT Verbal does not prepare you for SC. But a 70% accuracy on it should be enough for 750 if your Quant is solid. The problem is that the collection of OG questions do not fairly represent the current crop of GMAT SC questions. Accuracy in meaning is a much bigger deal than it was a few years ago.
