Good Afternoon,
I am a prospective student beating myself up over the decision of going for my MBA or my specialized masters in HRM.
Undergrad Degree: BBA Concentration in Accounting
Undergrad GPA: 3.61
Working Experience: 10 years before my degree, 1 year since my degree.
I am currently working in the payroll field and am interested in staying in the HRM field but I'm not 100% sure about this.
My work pays for my education up to 6 credits per semester but since this is a taxable benefit I will be paying alot of tax cost out of pocket.
The MBA will take me approximately 5-6 years while the specialized masters may take me 2-2.5. The cost for the masters will be close to 0 while the MBA will be around 25,000. I realize this is a low cost considering its an MBA, but I am trying to gain the most utility out of my time and money.
Any advice on if I am stupid for even considering a specialized over an MBA would be greatly appreciated. I am only considering Temple Universiy Fox School of Business.

Pursuing an MBA could be seen as 'insurance' in case you want to change careers down the road or give yourself a leg up as you take on more management roles. But that 'insurance' would cost you $25K and delay the payoff of your post-graduate degree by 3 years. If you are fairly confident that your career focus is only HR, then given the cost and time differential between the MBA and specialized masters, I would save your money and pursue the specialized master's. Your bachelor's in accounting already gives you some of the business foundation that an MBA provides.
