Hello - I am not applying to business school for several years, but I have taken the GMAT several times and currently have one more attempt left this year. My recent two scores are listed below. My question is whether the adcoms at M7 schools will place significant focus on the fact that I received a 49Q and 42V in my best sittings, or whether they will brush off the "superscore" and only focus on the 690 highest score?

Please note that the most recent low quant and IR scores are directly the result of rushing carelessly, as I have never scored an actual GMAT quant score or CAT quant score of below 47.

690 - 42Q 42V 3 IR (Most recent)
680 - 49Q 35V 6 IR (1.5 months ago)

Thanks!

If your goal is an M7 school, I'd hold off on taking another GMAT until you're routinely scoring in the low-mid 700's on practice exams. Why do you think there is so much disparity between the two exams? A 49-42 is quite a good score combined...but until schools see the two together they won't mix and match these different exams.

Regards,
Scott

Sounds good - thank you. In between these two exams, I scored consistently in the low 700's with a quant score typically ranging from Q47-Q49. I believe that the Q42 is a result of making a few careless errors early on in the exam and rushing through the section without realizing it. I feel that the disparity is directly a result of carelessness and overconfidence.

If that's the case, focus a bit on some advanced quant problems and give yourself a tight time frame to do them. So, for example, 2 minutes per question. It's very easy to get overconfident on the test, but your previous quant scores should let you know you are capable of doing very well!
