Do we need to say why HBS and Why now in the Open Ended Essay? [#permalink] New post   03 Sep 2018, 09:26
I currently don't mention anything about why HBS specifically and Why now. Is that ok? I read through the forums and some people said HBS is not really looking for why HBS because they know why everyone is applying to HBS anyways.

Yeah, I agree with that assessment. I didn't mention why HBS either.

The focus should all be about why you are interesting to them, what do you bring to the party for them. If it is extremely organic to your goals essay or the main essay, one might demonstrate a particularly good fit for the case method. But only if it's very special. As always lead with your strengths help them get to know what is special about you.

I've mentioned some HBS specifics in my essay - case method, some faculty and even some courses that I know will help me to advance towards my career goals. But they came up during the essay; there wasn't a "why HBS" section in my essay.. As MBAPrepCoach mentioned, it was very organic for me to include those
