Arrange the 9 values in ascending order to get: {12, 16, 18, 25, 27, 29, 34, 35, 46}
Since we have an ODD number of values, the median is the MIDDLE value
So, the median = 27

Answer: C

Median- the central value... If odd terms, the central value - (n+1)/2 and if even terms average of the two middle terms - average of n/2 term and (n/2)+1term
Mode- the term repeating the max time
Mean-spirited average of all terms


Arrange the terms 34,29,27,46,18,25,12,35 & 16 in increasing order..
12,16,18,25,27,29,34,35,46
Since 9 terms, median is 5th term so 27

Solution



Given:
    • In a recent storm, 9 neighbourhoods experienced power failures of durations 34, 29, 27, 46, 18, 25, 12, 35, and 16 minutes respectively

To find:
    • The median duration of power failures, in minutes

Approach and Working:
The median of any given set of values indicates the middle-most values of the given elements
    • As there are 9 elements, the middle element will be 9+1/2 or 5th element

If we arrange the power failure timings in ascending order, we get {12, 16, 18, 25, 27, 29, 34, 35, 46}
    • Therefore, the median = the value of the middle element = 27

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

Answer: C

Ordering from least to greatest we have:

12, 16, 18, 25, 27, 29, 34, 35, 46

The median is the middle value. We can use the formula (n + 1)/2 to determine which data value is the median, and we obtain (9 + 1)/2 = 10/2 = 5. This means that the 5th data value is the median. Thus, the median is 27.

Answer: C
