Quote:
1. If the information contained in all three e-mails is correct, the total cost of the requested manuals will be closest to __________.

A. $1,060
B. $1,080
C. $1,100
D. $1,120
E. $1,190

As stated, each manual will consist of 115 pages (5 coloured and 110 black & white). There are 35 manuals in total.
The fixed cost is $2 per manual. 2*35 = $70 fixed costs
Cost of black & white pages for each manual= 0.25*110 = 27.50
Cost of coloured pages for each manual = 5*0.75 = 3.75
Combined cost of all pages for each manual = $31.25
Therefore, the cost of pages for 35 manual = 31.25 8 35 = $1093.75

Total cost of 35 manuals = Cost of pages + Fixed costs = 1093.75 + 70 = $1163.75 which is closest to E. $1190.

2. Consider each of the following statements. Does the information in the three sources support the inference as stated?

Yes No
The director of the training department believes that the software training class will be filled to capacity.
The director of the training department expects that printing of the training manual will exceed the department's printing budget.
The technical publications department will most likely be able to deliver 35 copies of the training manual by October 21st.

1. Yes. From the 1st email, "expect the class will close at 35 students, the capacity of our training room"
2. No. The budget hasn't been mentioned.
3. No. From the 2nd email, "If your manual is less than 100 pages, we should be able to deliver by your deadline." Since the manual consists of 115 pages, we cannot expect them to delivered by October 21st.

1. If the information contained in all three e-mails is correct, the total cost of the requested manuals will be closest to __________.

A. $1,060
B. $1,080
C. $1,100
D. $1,120
E. $1,190

Total manuals required = 35 (for 35 students)

Pages per manual (115 pages + 3 pages (company info) = 118 pages (MAXIMUM as per Tab 3) )

118 pages will contain :-
B&W - 113 pages (@ 0.25 per page for printing)
Colour - 05 pages (@ 0.75 per page for printing)

Cost (for 113 pages B&W) = 113 * 0.25 = 113/4
Cost (for 05 pages Colour) = 05 * 0.75 = 15/4
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cost (for printing 35 manuals, each with 118 pages) = 128/4 * 35 = $ 1120
also,
Costs (for collatiion and preparation @ $2.00/manual) = 2 * 35 = $ 70
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL COST = $ 1190

(E) is the CORRECT answer

2. Consider each of the following statements. Does the information in the three sources support the inference as stated?

(A) The director of the training department believes that the software training class will be filled to capacity.

As per Tab 1 , the Director expects the class will close at 35 students (ie, the capacity of the training room).

YES is the CORRECT answer

(B) The director of the training department expects that printing of the training manual will exceed the department's printing budget.

No information furnished in the given Tabs; hence the prompt can't be asceratined using the provided information.
The given information doesn't support the inference.

NO is the CORRECT answer

(C) The technical publications department will most likely be able to deliver 35 copies of the training manual by October 21st.

Tab 2 (based on E-mail from the technical publications manager) : If your manual is less than 100 pages, we should be able to deliver by your deadline.

However,
Tab 3 (E-mail from the director of the training department) : The manual for this three-day training will exceed 100 pages and may run as long as 115 pages.

Since the manual will exceed 100 pages per manual, the technical publications department will NOT be able to deliver 35 copies of the training manual by October 21st.

NO is the CORRECT answer

YES, NO, NO are the CORRECT answers

Re: E-mail #1: We are preparing our schedule for the November 1st training [#permalink]
1. If the information contained in all three e-mails is correct, the total cost of the requested manuals will be closest to D. $1,120.

Total number of manual= 35
Fixed Cost of collating and preparation = $2/manual
Number of Total pages minimum 101, maximum = 115
Color Pages =5
Black & White Pages minimum= 96, maximum=110
Cost of 5 color pages Printing= 0.75*5= $ 3.75
Cost of 96 Black and white pages Printing = 96*0.25= $ 24
Cost of 110 black and white pages printing = 110*0.25= $ 27.5
Maximum Total Cost of Printing 1 manual = (Fixed Cost+ 5 colour page Printing + 110 Black & White Printing)= (2+3.75+27.5)= $33.25
Maximum Total Cost of printing 35 manuals with 115 pages= 33.25*35 = $1163.75

Least Total Cost of Printing 1 manual = (Fixed Cost+ 5 colour page Printing + 96 Black & White Printing) =($2+3.75+24)= $29.75
Least Total Cost of printing 35 manuals with 101 pages= 29.75*35= $1041.25

Total Cost should be in between $1041.25 and $1163.75

A. $1,060 Fractional Black and White Pages, so not possible.
B. $1,080 Fractional Black and White Pages, so not possible.
C. $1,100 Fractional Black and White Pages, so not possible.
D. $1,120 For Total Number of Pages =111, Total Cost= $1120
E. $1,190 Greater than $1163.75

The director of the training department believes that the software training class will be filled to capacity.Yes
Yes, refer to the line "To date, we have received 23 reservations and expect the class will close at 35 students, the capacity of our training room."

The director of the training department expects that printing of the training manual will exceed the department's printing budget. No
No, we don't know about the department's printing budget so this information cannot be determined.

The technical publications department will most likely be able to deliver 35 copies of the training manual by October 21st. No
No, the deadline of the 21st October can only be met if the manual is less than 100 pages.
But since the manual will exceed the 100 pages, it is unlikely to meet the deadline.

A. $1,060
B. $1,080
C. $1,100
D. $1,120
E. $1,190

Pages in One manual = 115 + 03 = 118 (Colour - 05 , and Black & White - 113)
Manuals ordered = 35
Total manuals required = 35 (for 35 students)

Pages per manual (115 pages + 3 pages (company info) = 118 pages (MAXIMUM as per Tab 3) )

118 pages will contain :-
113 pages Black & White will cost = 113 x 0.25 = 28.25
05 pages Colour will cost = 05 x 0.75 = 3.75
Collating and preparation/manual = 2

COST / manual = 34.00 dollars
Manuals ordered = 35

Correct option is (E)

2. Consider each of the following statements. Does the information in the three sources support the inference as stated?

(A) The director of the training department believes that the software training class will be filled to capacity.

Tab 1: E-mail #1 (expect the class will close at 35 students, the capacity of our training room)

Correct option is YES

(B) The director of the training department expects that printing of the training manual will exceed the department's printing budget.

Data not available for the department's printing Budget in Tab 1: E-mail #1
Data not available for the department's printing Budget in Tab 2: E-mail #2
Data not available for the department's printing Budget in Tab 3: E-mail #3

Correct option is NO

(C) The technical publications department will most likely be able to deliver 35 copies of the training manual by October 21st.

Tab 1: E-mail #2 : If your manual is less than 100 pages, we should be able to deliver by your deadline.

From this , it can be inferred that the technical publications department will not likely be able to deliver 35 copies of the training manual by October 21st.

Correct option is NO

1. If the information contained in all three e-mails is correct, the total cost of the requested manuals will be closest to __________.

A. $1,060
B. $1,080
C. $1,100
D. $1,120
E. $1,190

Solution:
Standard cost for each manual: 2$. Hence, cost for 35 such manuals = 2*35 = $70
Cost of 3 standard company info page print - 3*0.25*35 = $26.25 (35 given the number of manuals)
Cost of 5 color page - 5*0.5*35 - $87.5
Cost of 115 pages (includes cost of color pages too since cost of color is above and beyond the b&w price) - 115*025*35 - $ 1006.25

Now adding all these values, we get
70+26.25+87.5+1006.25 = $ 1190

HENCE (E)

2. Consider each of the following statements. Does the information in the three sources support the inference as stated?

The director of the training department believes that the software training class will be filled to capacity.

YES - as mentioned in passage

[/color]

NO - nothing mentioned about budget

The technical publications department will most likely be able to deliver 35 copies of the training manual by October 21st.

NO - as mentioned in passage, it would be a no.

Quote:
We have a very heavy schedule to meet in the month of October, and we will add your manual to our calendar.

Quote:
If your manual is less than 100 pages, we should be able to deliver by your deadline.

Quote:

Official Explanation

1. If the information contained in all three e-mails is correct, the total cost of the requested manuals will be closest to __________.

If the manuals run to 115 pages each, plus the three pages of standard company information, they will have a total of 118 pages, with five of those containing color graphics. The total cost of printing one manual will therefore be $0.25 × 118, plus an extra $0.50 × 5, plus $2.00, which equals $34.

The cost of 35 manuals will be $34 × 35, or $1,190. The correct answer is $1,190.

Answer: E

2. Consider each of the following statements. Does the information in the three sources support the inference as stated?

The first inference is supported by the information in E-mail #1. The training director indicates that the class should have 35 registrants, the capacity of the training room.

The second inference is not supported by the information in the three sources. The three sources do not mention the department’s printing budget.

Based on the information given in the three sources, the technical publications department is not likely to be able to deliver 35 copies of the training manual by the deadline of October 21st. E-mail #2 states that delivery should be on time if the manual is under 100 pages, but Email #3 indicates that the manual will exceed 100 pages.

I got the answers right. However, for question 1, I did not interprete "with three pages..." as "plus three pages...". So my total number of pages was 115 and not 118.
