It depends on the school. For most schools with round deadlines (vs. rolling admissions) submitting before the deadline offers no advantage as all applications are reviewed after the deadline and read in no particular order.

When interview invites and admission decisions are being released you will see that time of submission has no correlation to timing of notifications (of interviews or admission). Submit your apps early if you choose, but don't look for an additional advantage from it unless you're applying to Columbia, Cornell, or any other school with a rolling admissions process.

I don't believe Cornell Johnson has a rolling admissions.

They have hard round deadlines, but read applications on a rolling basis. On the Johnson admissions blog the essay questions for next year were just released. This statement was also published:
The 2012-2013 application will go live at the beginning of July. The admissions committee will start reading applications as soon as they are submitted.

Columbia looks favorably on early apps I believe. Go for it.
