Hello,
I have two concerns regarding my profile I was hoping you could help me address.
1. I have an employment gap of 9 months between my first and second jobs. The gap exists because I had to move back home from where I was working to help my parents out with their business. They own a small grocery store (annual revenue of ~ $1.5 million) and manage it themselves, however my dad fell sick at the time and so I had to quit my job to go home and assist the family. I handled nearly everything from ordering inventory to scheduling employees' hours to paying all the bills. Is this experience something I should include on my resume or should I address it in the typical additional information question?
2. The second concern, or rather question, I have is whether I would make a good candidate to apply through the Consortium? I am not of African American, Hispanic, or Native American but I understand that that doesn't disqualify one from consideration. I was actually born and raised (lived there until I was 12) in East Africa but my ethnicity is South Asian (Indian). I know that to be considered for the Consortium one solely needs to demonstrate a commitment to the Consortium's mission and I think I have accomplished that throughout my college and short real-life work career. During college, I was an officer for a Latino business organization that aims to expand Latino representation in the global economy. While working for a Wall Street brokerage firm, I was involved in two affinity networks, Asian Professionals Network and Black Network. My involvement in these networks was limited to attending the events they had every couple of months so there's not much to talk about there. However, more recently I was asked to join the professional association of the Latino business organization I was involved with during college as an officer. I currently serve as the Treasurer for this organization and I am moderately involved in almost all events that take place. That being said, would you suggest I apply through the Consortium or am I atleast a viable candidate for this?
Thanks for all your help!
