Hey guys,
So I’m really looking for some advice on what I should do next. I initially took the GMAT back in January and got a 580. I was pretty unsatisfied but figured it was good enough for some of the mid level schools I was targeting. I got a reply from my first pick school and was waitlisted. I convinced myself that I had to do something about it, so I decided to retake the GMAT aiming for a mid 600 score so as to improve my chances of getting in off the waitlist. I felt great on test day and it showed because I improved 140 pts with just under a month of studying(used Magoosh one-month study plan). Now I’m left wondering if I would not be better off setting my sights on a better ranked school or if I should see if my score could allow for some scholarship money from some mid level schools.
I’m really new to all this and don’t really know anyone who has gone down this road before so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am 22 year old Economics major from CSU Stanislaus with a 3.2 gpa and not much in terms of relevant work experience. I’m specifically interested in doing an MS in Finance. What are my best options at this point?

Thank you for sharing your profile, and congratulations on the improved GMAT score. Have you received admissions from any other university, or just waitlisted? If the latter, then, indeed, apply to other programs. I feel that you might benefit from a conversation, and am happy to schedule a free consultation. You don't seem to be thrilled about the university you have been waitlisted either and would like to learn more about that. Also, a conversation about your long-term career goals is beneficial in putting together a strategy that may get you into a desirable MS program.

Again, please email me if you would like to schedule a free consultation.

Good luck!

Congrats on the 720. A big improvement for you! We would love to help you but we need some more information.

- What kind of internships do you have? (easiest to send the resume: scott@personalmbacoach.com)
- What does extra-curricular leadership look like?
- What do you want to do after school?
- Demographic info?
- Most importantly what schools are you considering? Unfortunately mid-level is a bit vague so it is hard to advise whether you are reaching high enough

Best,
Scott

I have no internship experience or extra-curricular leadership experience. I have worked full time throughout the majority of my time in college. My goal is to get a job as a financial analyst. I am a Mexican-American first generation college student. I was born in central California. I have applied at Portland State University (waitlisted), University of San Francisco (awaiting response), and also looking to apply at Seattle University.
