Graduated in Mining Engineering in 2011, IIT (BHU), Varanasi

GPA- 7.17/10

Experience (5 year +) - Consulting in Natural Resource Sector for 3 year 11 months (including 1.5 years of International experience) + for 1 year 4 months run my own startup in logistic space in India (Raised fund, run it and sold it out)

A few thoughts and lot more questions for you ptdmat:
  1. The contours of your profile look promising - good undergrad, decent GPA and a non-common work experience. These should together help you grab that initial attention.
  2. The startup experience is great but it doesn't seem to be connected to your previous work or education - that will need some explanation. The international experience sounds good too. But it is the achievements therein that are really important to elucidate.
  3. Most top schools also expect something beyond the work; read here. Anything recent you have there?
  4. It will also be important to understand your GMAT expectations as well as your post-MBA plans to get a better sense of the profile.

Congrats on starting your own company and eventually selling it. This will make your profile more attractive than the average one from an IIT.

However I would need more information to properly evaluate you and recommend schools.

GMAT score?
Extra-curriculars?
What was your company, how much did you sell it for?
Lastly what are you doing now?

Dear Pdtmat,

We think you have a good profile and if you are able to score well in your GMAT (say 740+), we will not hesistate in saying that you should aim for the top notch schools in the world. However we would want to know more about your work and your startup to make specific recommendations but overall pre MBA consulting experience and then starting on your own is commendable. If the stories are put together in a comprehensive manner, we are certain that you can get a good admit.

We will definitely recommend that you are done with GMAT latest by mid August so that you have enough time to prepare the applications. It will also help to define target geographies so that you can specifically look at schools in that region to find the best fit.
