hi
I am an Asian male. I have a gmat score of 730 (V40/Q 49/ AWA 5.0) My gpa is 2.8 (with my senior year gpa at 3.4) from a top fifteen university in the US.
I used to work for international/corresondent banking division handling overseas branches and correspondent banks for 3 years. Currently, I have worked in IR department for two years dealing with the government, investment banks, and investors. My department is also in charge of privatizing the currently-government-owned financial institution.
I also co-established a SME internet-based language school, and provide English tutor service to less fortunate children free of charge as a part time job. I pay a regular visit to elderly house once a week as part of community services.
I will pursue mba on a corporate sponsorship. my short term goal is successful privatization of the bank and long term goal is the ceo of the bank.
I plan to apply for top 10 schools including HBS, Wharton and Yale. Could you kindly review my profile? What are my chances at these schools?
Thank you very much !!
p.s. my father is an HBS alumni (HBS OPM). Would it help mention this at all?
Imdachoi,
Your chances at Yale are probably good, at Wharton fair, and HBS less than fair. I say that because you didn't mention management experience in your work so I assume you have none, and though your profile is a strong one, there's nothing especially unusual about it that would catch HBS's eye (based on what you told me). Your odds are better at Wharton than HBS. It's a good idea to mention your father, yes, but do it in a value-added way, by referring to what he told you he got out of his HBS experience. His alumni status is a positive for you, but not a big one. Maybe consider Chicago, MIT, and/or Stern.
Good luck,
