Thank you for your reply. Would participating in some community activities help me get into Top 10 schools. Or can you give me suggestions about stuff I can do get into the Top 10 schools.

Regards.

dkallaku,

You need to show greater leadership and impact. If you can take on more responsibility at work and ideally get into a managerial role that would help. Outside of work, look for a community activity that you can participate in on a leadership level, i.e., corrdinating people, serving on its board, or influencing the direction of the organization. Also consider choosing a community activity that's distinctive and that you actually care about. And raise your GMAT as high as you possibly can.

Good luck,

Hello Mr. Bodine,

I read your book - Application essays for top business schools and found it very helpful. I would enthusiastically recommend it to everyone.

Considering my profile below. If you add in a leadership role like organizing community service oriented camps, how are my chances of getting into the top schools and to show more distinctiveness I overcame health issues in high school and college. Please let me know.

Profile:
690 gmat with 3.3 years exp
MSEE, excellent reviews at work.
IEEE journal publication
and other info. I quoted above.

dkallaku,

I would still call you a longshot at Kellogg, GSB, Wharton, HBS, Haas, and Stanford, but you could apply to some of them as longshots. Given your technology management goals you might aim for CMU, Texas, UC Irvine, Indiana, Purdue, or Maryland.

Good luck,
