Bio:
25 yr old Korean male citizen raised in Japan. Fluent in both Korean and Japanese (read financial papers and write decent documents).
GPA:2.9
Small school. Double majored in Marketing and Communication. Attended because of full scholarship on tuition, allowing me to finance myself through school, which is rather difficult for international students.
GMAT: V36(80%) Q35(78%) for 670 (88%) 5.0
Work experience- one year as a sales associate for international food distributor in Los Angeles. Increased previous sales associate's average sale of $120,000/month to $180,000/month, which was above average sales in the department.
Other misc. facts that may not even help.
-door-to-door sales experience (educational books) during summer. Decent results.
-Number of other blue/white color jobs to finance myself through college.
-Awarded every year in college's business plan competition.
Leadership Experience/volunteer activity:
None really. Does church music leader or volunteerer at kid's soccer camp count?
After working as a sales associate, i quit my job to breath fresh air and travelled around U.S. and Japan. Also worked on my hobby and created decent websites... Unfortunately, this refreshing time became a bit too long, and I have not worked in nearly one year. To explain this hole, I can say I took 24 online credits of accounitng classes for a CPA exam, which I will probably have passed before my MBA application.
I would like to attend study MBA because I realized I want to work in management consulting. I need a "spark" to help jump-start my new goal.
I know I have multiple things going against me; low GPA, lack of experience and leadership/volunteer work. I hope to counter these things with a decent GMAT score (hopefully 700+ by the time I apply), passing the CPA exam, and great understanding of international relations.
My goals are UCLA/Stern/Cornell. Are these schools feasible? Will passing the CPA exam help me much? If these schools arent practical, what schools in Los Angeles and New York area can I be looking at?
Sorry for the barrage of questions and needlessly long post. I wanted to be as comprehensive as possible. Thank you very much for your help.
