Great debrief aparvez85!

Congratulations on the 700. Seeing hard work pay off always motivates me. Thanks for the tips on how you attacked GMAT Club Tests as well. Very useful!

All the best for your applications!

Congrats. However, did you really quit your job to prepare for GMAT?

Which schools are you targeting? Please remember that a lot of Business Schools take work gaps very seriously. Preparation for GMAT wouldn’t be considered a very good explanation in my opinion.

Hey,

I didnt leave to study for GMAT only. I actually had to take a medical leave. So i have proof of that. And my company didnt have any sabbatical policies.
I am looking at ISB, NUS, HEC Paris and McGill.

aparvez85 – thank you for taking the time out to post your journey. Given the feedback on this forum, it is clear that many have benefited from your post. Your success re-enforces the point that acing the GMAT is more about diligence than about innate intelligence. In fact, innate intelligence is massively over rated while true grit and diligence is are not given due credit.

You improved an impressive 200 points in ~3 months despite working 6 days a week. Achieving this feat requires faith in oneself and a true resolve to get there. Continue working hard as you work on your applications.. this attitude will serve you well. Lastly, thank you for being a student ?.
Good luck!!

Thank you so much! I would like to correct that i was not working while preparing for GMAT. But due to medical issues it was still a challenge.

congrats on your score :)

Can you please share the exact books you used to learn the foundations for math.
Is it only the veritas ? Does that cover all the topics asked in the GMAT ?
I Would appreciate your help on this.

Hey,

Thank you! Yes, i used Veritas books. I used the Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Word Problems and Probability and Combinatorics books. They have separate books for these topics. This should be enough for basics. It will mention all the formulas and basic question types that you can face on the GMAT. You may find 1 question of each type which is why you need to practice more. And for that i used GMATClub Tests.

You can also use the GMATClub Maths Book for quick formula references, but don't use only that. Here is the link:

Good luck!
Let me know if i could be of any further help.

Hi #aparvez85, I am 39 Years old, mother of twins, working and have experience of 16 years almost. I was always below average student and not really sure if I am competent enough to take GMAT. I have gone through your journey and seems very inspiring. I really want admission in IIM B for executive MBA (1 year) but they are looking for GMAT score and which is why I am preparing. Similar to your plan I have also 3 months in which 1 month is already gone. I have gone through basic Quant and daily doing practice question that is available in GMAT tool kit from GMAT club. Now I am not sure whether it will be helpful or not but reading your story looks I am on right path. Please suggest more and give me any specific technique you might know which can help me during exam. Thank you, Summi

Hey aparvez85 first of all huge congratulations and hope you and your loved ones are in good health. Your story is so so similar to mine. It resonates word for word and I absolutely relate. I work in the news industry so I have working Saturdays as well, you see news never stops. I am like you from an Economics background and from Delhi University too (Hindu college) but my I didn't score a distinction. I managed to get enter the rung of first division though. Economics was extremely challenging and competitive and I know better now. Hence, I wish to make the pivot into marketing, which I am positive is my calling, via an MBA. Only difference between our profiles is I wish to pursue from a school in the US. And now the paranoia of my below average GPA is settling in, it is extremely stressful. I took the GMAT last month and scored a 700. Believe you me, I felt the same sense of relief and achievement as you, for me this is a huge deal, but again, seeing the competitiveness out there, especially the challenges of being an international student who also desperately needs financial aid, it is extremely overwhelming. Anyway, coming across your post uplifted my spirits a little, thank you. Wish you all the luck!
