Hello,
4.0, Hispanic from the University of Florida.
Currently in an analyst job, which I hate, and I've been here for 2 years. I've done some minor volunteer work with my company, but nothing significant.
I'm interested in leaving my position to do something more rewarding in the nonprofit/volunteering field (Ideally with some compensation if I stay in the US), and wanted to get advice on what looks good for admissions:
Some options I have are:
1. Volunteer in Peru teaching Children
2. Work at a shelter in the US
Anyone know of any other good opportunities? Would a job like this full time look good if I do it for a year before school starts?
I would like to get my MBA in the Fall of 2013, so have a window of time available besides sticking in a job I don't like.
Any advice is appreciated.

Well sir, like what I've written before in this forum, don't let your MBA choose your job! Any of those choices can be good, you can do Teach for America, Peace Corps, anything you like to get the experience YOU seek. Afterwards, from a strategy perspective, anything can be written into your goals to make sense. Changing to an NGO job can be a great choice before applying.

@flagator - You are certainly heading on the right path. Switching over to a work stint in a non-profit is going to be very helpful in adding weight to your application. It may be helpful to do it for a year full-time depending on where you are working and what is your role.
