Hi Urvi,
Test Day is a rather specific 'event' - the details are specific and they matter, so you have to train as best as you can for all of them. The more realistic you can make your CATs, the more likely the score results are to be accurate. The more you deviate, the more "inflated" your practice scores can become - and that's what happened here. By skipping sections, taking the CATs at home, taking them at different times of day, etc., you weren't properly training for the FULL GMAT 'experience.' By extension, your practice CAT scores were not accurate.
The GMAT is remarkably good at giving Test Takers the score that they EARN. With this recent Exam, you did enough work to earn a 470. While you probably have the skills to score higher, you haven't properly trained to deliver that overall 'higher score performance' yet. To score at a much higher level consistently, you're going to have to make significant changes to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections.

Hi Rich,
I agree with what you say but it is too difficult to believe that after 6 months of preparation I was actually prepared for only a 470. Wasn't I doing better than this with no preparation at all? I scored 490 with almost no prep. I know it is no use thinking about it like that
1) What is your goal score?
- Really? I am too negative to think about a "goal score" right now. Atleast a 650 may be?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
-I was hoping to get through this year.
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
-There are a few schools in India that accept GMAT score. Anything above 650 is good for me.
And let me tell you, it is not just about the mocs. I use to take small tests of say 20 to 30 questions and I had achieved good accuracy (80 %, I am assuming 80% is good ).
I think I can conveniently say that stamina and timing are the two things that were clearly not on my side.
If I were to build a plan again, what do I focus more on? What should be that one thing that should be the focus right from the first day of prep? Accuracy or timing?
Thank you once again.
