Feb 19, 2020 was when I first gave my GMAT with 1.5 month of prep. Scored 650 (Q46, V34). After the first attempt I was quite pumped for the time being to appear for GMAT again and get a better score. But then, life happened. COVID-19 hit and we all moved from a WFH scenario. Office suddenly got easy and more satisfying. I somehow lost the motivation to do an MBA.
Things were going smooth on all fronts. Come September 2020, I was motivated again to re-appear for GMAT. This was after I started realising that I wasn't getting the due recognition at work. I started my prep again in earnest in November 2020. Upto December 31, it was busy season at work, so couldn't study much. Got into full slog mode in Jan.
Suffered setbacks in 2021 (broke up with girlfriend, my MBA plans started creating problems at work with promo in question, near death car accident) but stuck to my goal and tried to curb my distractions.
Gave the test yesterday in Gurgaon center in Delhi-NCR and scored a 720 (Q49, V40, IR8). I am quite stoked with the performance. Midway I felt that my verbal was going pathetic but I got lucky in the end with a RC on a topic I was extremely familiar with. I'm not sure if the GMAT journey is over for me since I may again appear and target a 750.
But for now, i'll move onto the application process.
There are a few people whom I would like to thank Jeff & Marty from
TargetTestPrep. The quant and SC module of TTP was just brilliant and helped me refine my concepts. For eg: the difference between subjunctive and indicative mood - when to use "would" and when to use "will" was lucidly explained by TTP. The quant modules focus on explaining everything through simplicity. More than anything, the amount of questions that you do in the course of completing the TTP Quant course ensures that most of the concepts become second nature to you.
AndrewN and
generis - the explanations by both of them are pure gold. Read them carefully and multiple times. Bookmark the posts and revisit them every other day. These along with the TTP SC Module were the things that truly increased my SC accuracy to close to >90%.
I hope gmatclub continues to be the guiding light for MBA students. Truly a great community and a great resource. I know that I built up my number properties strength through 95% difficulty rated questions. While not a lot of them come on the GMAT, they help build comfort, expose you to approaches that eventually help you ace the concept (and number properties is VERY important).
For those who want to know my study schedule, I first identified my weaknesses from my 1st try (CR and Quant). I focussed on Quant the entire December and January and then moved onto mixed practice of Quant and Verbal (SC ---> CR ---> RC in that order). My study time was approx 3/4 hours a day. I maintained A LOT of flash cards to jot down the finer concepts, tricks and tips, tricky questions, approaches. Basically anything that'll keep you on your feet. For CR, especially, I jot down the broad framework of questions on the flash cards (eg: correlation & causality, alternate cause, cause occurs but effect doesn't, etc etc). For CR, extremely important that one tries to fit the answer choices in one of the relevant frameworks (out of score, opposite, contender). Didn't study IR at all. Did 4/5 RC passages per day in the last 1 week or so.
Last mention but EmpowerGMAT's RC module is good too. The laddering helps!

Thank you guys. Couldn't have done it without the community's help.
