Hi from Germany,
as I am currently reflecting my career plans, I am interested in your evaluation of my profile regarding a MBA.
- German, female, 30 (to old?)
- 1996 till 2000: studied Politics, Business and English linguistics at Germans second largest university for 3,5 years (but did not finished)
- being politically engaged at this time an Sports Officer of this university
- 1998 till 1999: had been an exchange student at University of Warwick for one semester with Erasmus scholarship (Politics and International Studies)
- 2000 till 2003: worked as an online editor (automotive and motorsports) after having been a freelance journalist started at the age of 15
- 2003 till beginning 2007: studied Media Management in Germany as this was (and is) my passion - finished with German score 1.7 (guess it is an A or A-)
- started two own businesses going to be moneymakers next year (one is online marketing in coop with a German public relations agency, second is a kind of event marketing agency placing a highly desired luxury product on the market)
- played tabletennis from 1992 to 2000 (third highest German league, several high class tournaments, trainer at university)
My goals for the next two years:
- being successful with my businesses (with the second one in focus)
- refreshing my English (getting the level I had when I studied English linguistics)
- learning Spanish (cause this is a potential market for my second business)
- receiving the Greencard (which I have applied for

... the US attracts me a lot)
- repaying my loan (hangover of my student life)
My MBA goals:
- not Finance
- Marketing or Consulting
- industry: Media, Entertainmanent, Leisure
- not before 2010 (therefore haven't started TOEFL/GMAT)
- staying in the US afterwards
- if my second business is successful in Europe, I like to adapt it in the US
I guess (as an experienced editor) essays is not that problem. Worrying about lack of social engagement during the last years. Thought about it for several times during the last months. But can't decide because I don't know the American way of that. Is working with smaller children a good idea (cause I love them)? Or is climate protection engagement a better one? Or doesn't matter what but doing something is the point?
Next question: What school would you recommend? Haven't found what I am looking for so far. I am thinking about a consulting job in media industry (due to my longtime experience in online and offline media industry). Do I have to choose a BSchool with a consulting background or is there a media related BSchool that could be the better choice?
Well, lots of stuff. I know. But I am really interested in planning my career NOW
Thx for answering,
Kerstin (from vibrant Berlin)
