Gheri - n yrs
Carl - n-6

Its Given, Gheri = n years old
Carl = n - 6

Carl = J +2
=> J = Carl-2
=> J = n-8

Sum of all three ages = n + n-6 + n-8 = 3n -14

Suppose ,

n = 10 years.

Gheri = 10

carl = 4

jean = 2

Total age = 10 + 4 + 2 = 16.

Option E) 3n -14 = 3*10 - 14 = 16.

It's a nice idea to assign a number if both question steam and answer choices include variable.
