Interesting situation. Could you share the gmatclub link for that specific question?

-contact: gmatknight site | gmatclub dm

honestly, i'm assessing how much of a big deal it is and see if I can use it to my advantage in my application process before sharing it with everyone else. I'll defintiely share it later,
dunno maybe i'm taking it too seriously
thx for the reply

Thx Marty
it was a DS question
the problem was with the logical wording of the question not the math or anything (altho that was all the question was testing really)
Oh, interesting.

Hi mojizohan,

I would say it's pretty rare. So, it's not something you should worry about moving forward.

Hi guys
hope all of you are doing well with your studies

I recently spotted an error in an official gmat question and pointed it out to them via email and they acknowledged that I was right and the question should be changed.
my question: how common is this ? how happy should I get ? is this sth that happens to gmat official questions all the time or have I done sth rare in spotting an error in their question?

Posted from my mobile device

Thank you. Where was this question? Practice tests or Official guide?
Mistakes happen, and there used to be an errata for the Official Guide even when they were not published each year but it is gone.

Mistakes are not common but they have happened before. Mostly due to typos or attempts to reprint or modify questions or the fact that the official questions are actually written without explanations.... so a different writer has to write explanations to the official questions than the one who wrote the question in the first place... which is why they often suck.

P.S. Over 10 or so years, I have known of only one question on the GMAT which was wrong and 2 more instances where a question was cut off or going off screen during the actual test (this was in the IR section). So, it is quite rare but awesome of you having found and spotted an error and great to hear GMAC admitted it. how long did it take?

thx for the reply bb.
well I've decided to reveal it. it was this question:
https://gmatclub.com/forum/can-the-posi ... 66085.html
but I didn't see it here or in the Official Guide books, I saw it in the MBA.com Mini Quiz, which is something that made me gloat even more in the fact that I spotted the error since it was supposed to be seen by a larger number of candidates, and of course, none of them had noticed it.

I'll publish the content of my e-mail to them and my reasoning and their response later.

This is my email:
While I was doing the Mini Exam I couldn’t help but notice the error in the question number 8 and subsequently in the response in the answer key.

The question asks if x CAN be prime, while the answer provided by GMAT tackles the question as if it said “IS it prime”. While in the former ONLY ONE example of p where it is prime would answer the question (i.e. YES, it CAN BE prime), the latter requires a definite answer whether x either IS or IS NOT prime not both.

To simplify, when question asks “Can the positive integer p be expressed as the product of two integers, each of which is greater than 1?” (or in other words ‘can it be prime?’) one single example (e.g. 37) would provide a definitive YES answer. therefore choice b is sufficient.
