Hi guys!
I plan on applying for a full time MBA in the US in fall 2017/2018 (though 2017 is preferred!)
And I'd love some advice on my chance of getting in.
So here's my background:
Sex: Female
Age: 25
Undergrad degree: BBA (international program) from a top university in Southeast Asia. Majored in accounting. GPA: 3.89.
Work experience: In my third year with a big 4 audit firm. Good profile/international clients. Specialized in the non-life insurance industry. Will be qualified as a CPA after I reach the 3-year requirement next year.
Also, if I cannot make it for fall 2017, I plan on leaving the auditing field to gain some additional experience in the financial services industry, though I'll be working for only 1 year, which I'm not quite sure is a good idea.
Extracurricular activities: None notable. Negative about using them in my applications essays.
English proficiency score: Have not yet taken TOEFL, will do after I'm content with my GMAT score. Comparable local test score: 657. TOEIC: 990.
GMAT (first time last Wed)
AWA: TBA
IR: 8
Q: 49
V: 33*
Total: 670*
*I'm quite disappointed with my score of 670 and already scheduled a retake early next month given my inflexible work schedule and my rather high Q score which I'm positive I could maintain.
If I still cannot reach my target score of 700 +- 10 this time, I won't have time for GMAT until May next year.
I did 5+ CATs (Official,
MGMAT, Veritas, Kaplan) before the real exam and got 700 on most of them (range: 690-730) with Q ranging around 47-49 and V 37-41
On the exam day, I had no problems with time management and was still clear-headed up until the break before the verbal section. However, the first few questions (SC) of verbal threw me off my course. I took too long and was basically wildly guessing the last 25 verbal questions. I also did not complete the V section...
I'm rather good with grammar and had very little problem with SC in my mock CATs, so I'm not quite sure what hit me. My CR is decent and I worked on RC a lot before the exam and had no problems with it last Wed.
My plan is to keep practicing all sections with the highest focus on SC, though I'm not positive I could improve as I could not find the materials with the comparable level of difficulty as in the exam last Wed.
>So I'd love some recommendations for my upcoming GMAT next month. I'll have to work full-time but I can manage 1-2 hours before work and 3-4 hours after work on most days.
Targeted schools:
Wharton, U Penn
Haas, Berkeley
INSEAD, Singapore
Career path:
After getting my MBA, I have no specific field in mind. I have no problems with accounting/finance, but I struggled with management consulting.
So I think I'll take courses on finance, specifically fin tech and hope to capitalize on that.
Thank you!
