I am surprised by two things:
1. Was this not mentioned in any of the instructions?
2. Didn't the proctor notice that and guide you?
1. It depends as to what you expect but the instructions are both clear and vague. I guess this means you can't have anything really but I can see how using earplugs would be assumed to be OK since they are used at a test center....

They oversee multiple testing sessions at the same time so you do not have their full attention. Also, proctors may change during the test. Someone mentioned they got 3-4 different folks during their test but it did not matter (that was the pre Examity test version)
