Hi Everybody,
First of all I would like to apologize for the long post. I am almost at the end of my preparation and have been hitting some road blocks. Request your pointers around the same.
I am done with my GMAT preparation and currently taking either Full length Mocks from GMAT PREP, Veritas or Manhattan (OR) sectional tests using
GMAT Club tests.
I searched through the GMAT club forum and was unable to find if there was any thread that would co-relate scores on
GMAT Club tests to probable score on the actual GMAT.
On the Quants section ->
I am currently scoring consistently in the range of (Q48, Q47, Q47, Q47, Q50, Q49) on the
GMAT club tests. However this does not match the scores in mocks from other test prep companies like Manhattan & Veritas. In Manhattan and veritas mocks, I have been able to score not more than Q44. This is worrying me a bit.
Also on 2 free GMAT prep tests, I could score Q50, Q49. (However on both these tests, I could see around 3-4 questions for which I already knew the answers before hand. Not sure how this would have elevated my scores on the GMAT prep tests.?)
On the Verbal section ->
The best score that I could get on the verbal
GMAT club test is only V29, V29, V24.
And in the Veritas and Manhattan scores from full length were - V29, V31, V28, V31
GMAT Prep Scores - V31, V29.
From the results above, Can you please guide me if it was realistic to expect scores to improve on the verbal section by around 5-7 points to at least a ~V36 to score a 700 in one month.
Also Can I assume that the scores on the Quant would be roughly about the same on the actual GMAT test ?
Also If anybody could point to some suggestions to improve on the Verbal section, I would really grateful.
My biggest problem on the GMAT Verbal section has been with the Timing. I am unable to come up with a strategy to tackle the 41 questions in 75 mins.
Sentence Correction has always been my strength.
However, Reading comprehension and Critical reasoning are my biggest weakness. Not that I am unable to solve the question, but I am unable to do so under time presssures.
They are taking away a lot of time and I end up marking incorrect answers under pressure. Concept has not been the problem anytime when I re-look at the questions during my analysis of the mock. Its the timing pressures which is killing my Verbal Score.
Can anybody guide to me some tips & tricks to cleverly skip some questions in the middle and better way to solve Critical reasoning and Reading comprehension questions?
In almost all mocks, I have observed that
After completing Q10 --------------------> left with 48-50 mins
After completing Q20 -------------------> left with 28 mins
After completing Q30 -----------------> left with ~ 12 mins
No matter how much ever I try I am unable to decide which question to skip and I am tad-bit scared to randomly guess.
Because of these timing problems, I usually end up guessing one RC completely without even a glance damaging the score.
I am looking for some best strategies that I could probably take up to tackle the verbal section so that the scores could improve to at least a V36.
Thanks,
Vijay
