Graduation - 2014 (ICT Mumbai, Chemical Engineering - 7.6/10)

M.Tech - IIT - B (8.1/10)(2016)
GATE AIR - 102

2.5 years work at Godrej consumer product in Sustainability.

Past 5 years handling my family business of chemical manufacturing in Vapi, Gujarat.

My past 5 years in my SSI have taught me that I require a lot of skills which I currently lack in my business operation and hence by doing an MBA I think will club that gap, also aid a smoother transition to corporate.

Just wanted to know if this score is good enough for R2 application at ISB

Hey, Keshavkabra1

With your strong academic background from IIT, relevant work experience, and competitive GMAT score, you’re in a good spot for Round 2 application. Your understanding of the skills gap in business operations and your motivation to bridge it through an MBA show clear intent. ISB appreciates candidates who are self-aware and focused on growing both personally and professionally. Ensure your application highlights how your experiences can contribute to the ISB community and how the program fits your career goals.

Hi Keshavkabra1,

Your overall profile demonstrates a strong academic background and diverse work experience. Additionally, you have a reasonable GMAT FE score. However, we recommend understanding your profile in depth to help you strategise.

Basis what you have shared, here's a breakdown of your strengths and considerations for ISB R2:

Strengths:

Academic Credentials: Your M.Tech degree from IIT-B and strong GATE score showcase your academic capabilities.
Entrepreneurial Experience: Managing your family business for five years demonstrates initiative, leadership, and business acumen.
Shifting Gears: Your desire to transition back to the corporate world exhibits career ambition.

Considerations:

Work Experience Gap: The five-year gap in formal work experience might need explanation in your application. Focus on how your business ownership has developed relevant skills.
Focus on Skills Gained: In your application essays, highlight the specific skills you've acquired through running your business, such as problem-solving, financial management, and negotiation.

Your profile is competitive for ISB R2. Consider scheduling a free consultation with an MBA admissions consultant to develop a tailored application strategy for ISB R2. They can help you leverage your unique profile and improve your chances of admission.

Congratulations on your GMAT score of FE 665, which is equivalent to the ISB PGP class average of 720. You will be a diverse profile with a master's in IIT Bombay and having family business experience for 5 years will separate you from the Indian engineering cohort. The recent class of 2024 has admitted candidates ages between 24 to 45 years with the class average age being 26 years, which confirms your eligibility to apply for regular PGP.

Many applicants coming from family business experience make it an advantage at ISB, as the program encourages applicants with industry diversity. Show that you are the right candidate with family business experience to give an exceptional viewpoint and perspective to the school, which you need to stress in your application essays.

Analyzing your profile mentioned you have a very good chance to get admitted into ISB PGP. If you're targeting to apply in R2 you need to start your application now or there are great chances of missing your deadlines while writing your CV, recommendation, essays, etc. We suggest you talk to ISB Alumni or application consultants to make your application journey better.

Hi Keshavkabra1,

You seem to have shared your GMAT FE score here.

In so far as ISB is concerned, you have a good GMAT score; of course, GMAT is only one component of the application and your chances will depend on how strongly you portray the rest of your profile along with how logically you portray your career goals.

Hope this helps.

All the best!
