Today I wrote my first official GMAC practice test and scored 645 (Q:82; V:86 DI: 77) [I broke my pen and cut my finger in DI which cost me time and I only got to answer 18 questions haha].
I plan to write next week and looking for any suggestions on how to make the most of the time to bed down the score. Up until now I’ve been using Magoosh question bank and rather general practice/review.
Current plan is to write mock 2-6 over the next week in the mornings before work and on the weekend at a simulated test time. Then doing targeted practice/review of hard question sets in trouble areas in the evenings.
Any other thoughts?
**PS story time: I’ve honestly been scared of writing the official mock after scoring 525 on a Magoosh practice a few months ago. I had panicked at the difficulty, stayed too long on questions and got nowhere near finishing. Personal and work life then became challenging and I struggled to have time to study. Now time deadlines have forced my hand, so I’ve moved cities for 3 weeks to remove distractions outside of work and focusing solely on test and application in my free time. Won’t put too much weight into a single mock, but 645+ all of a sudden doesn’t feel so out of reach.

I wrote mock 1 in the evening after work. Will assess which timing (morning/evening) feels better with mock 2.

In addition to taking practice exams, it would be helpful to engage in topical practice. Let's use quant as an example.
For example, let’s say that you want to practice Number Properties. You can do so by answering 50 or more questions just from Number Properties: LCM, GCF, units digit patterns, divisibility, remainders, etc.
After each problem set, thoroughly analyze your incorrect questions. For example, if you got a remainder question wrong, ask yourself why. Did you make a careless mistake? Did you not properly apply the remainder formula? Was there a concept you did not understand in the question?
By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your GMAT quant skills. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all quant, verbal, and DI topics.
