Hi Gauri10,

In a prior post, you stated that your score goal was 700+. Is that still your goal? If it is, then you will have to make some big improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Given your two Official GMAT Scores, you will likely need at least another 3 months of consistent, guided study to get to that level.

1) What practice materials have you used so far?

Hi,

I had joined a coaching class to get my concepts clear. I studied from verbal review, OG and the materials provided by the coaching class.

Hi All,

I need help!
I gave GMAT twice but my scores were heartbreaking.

5th Oct: 410(Q32,V17)
13th Dec: 460(Q39,V16)

I am lost, I really want to score high in the GMAT.
I am thinking of studying for 3 months and giving the exam, so most probably I would give exam in the 1st week of April'17. I specially need help in verbal section. Please suggest me a study plan for 3 months.

Regards,
Gauri

Hi Gauri,

Your scores shows a clear lack of fundamentals. In your preparation so far, how did you study? What material did you follow?

You need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways:
1. In person classes/private tutoring
2. Online classes
3. Self paced online preparatory course
4. Book heavy approach

Whatever you choose, make sure that you choose one. Because GMAT tests you on some concepts and fundamentals that you can learn from a course. Most of the preparatory companies including ours offer a free trial of our course. You can take the trial and see if the course suits your needs.
Our course comes with a 50 point score increase or money back guarantee. This shows our confidence in the course.
In addition to the preparatory material, buy the Official Guides(both the Official Guide and the Verbal Review), Question Pack 1 and the 4 official mock CATs. They should be an indispensable part of your preparation.

You need close to 3 months to prepare well for the GMAT.
1. Understand the concepts and fundamentals before jumping into problem solving
2. Solve full length CATs including AWA and IR. You can get two free GMAT Prep mock CATs and can purchase two more from mba.com
3. Make sure you solve the official questions from the Official Guide

Hi Gauri10,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. As such, your two Official Scores are not as different as they appear - they both revolve around the low-400s to mid-400s, so your general ability level is likely around a 440 right now. To significantly increase your score, you have to significantly improve how your skills; that will likely require that you change how you 'see' (and respond to) the Test.

1) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

On weekdays, I can study for 2 hours and on weekends 8-10 hours. Around 30 hours a week.

Hi Gauri10,

Studying 30 hours a week for 3 months (or more) is probably not sustainable, so it would be okay if you pared down those hours a bit (and it's probably a good idea to take one day 'off' from studying each week). That having been said, given your score goal, you would likely find it beneficial to invest in a GMAT Course of some type (either Guided Self-Study or instructor-led).

1) When are you planning to restart your studies?

You got determination, that's great. Start focussing on accuracy. For sc, write why each answer is wrong before eliminating. For all verbal questions, always eliminate, don't select

Hi Gauri10,

You've listed a 710 score in your profile, which might be confusing for anyone who might want to offer you advice. Since your actual GMAT scores were 410 and 460, you might want to list that information instead.

With a planned May Test Date, you have given yourself plenty of time to study and improve. Now you just have to make the necessary changes to how you 'see' (and respond to) the GMAT. If you continue to deal with the Exam in the same ways as before, then you will likely continue to score in the 400s. This whole process now hinges on your ability to learn and practice new Tactics, as well as your ability to eliminate whatever 'bad habits' you've developed (and replace them with new 'good habits'). Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at our website (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget. I think that you would find our 3-month Study Plan would help you a great deal.

If you have any additional questions, then just let me know.
