How to Use the GMAT Calculator?
I have developed a GMAT Calculator for mba.com scores that helps you estimate your final score based on the sectional scores (Quant, Verbal, and DI).
Pro Tip: In the GMAT Focus Edition, a 645 is the new 700. Don't let the lower numbers fool you.
Something that's interesting to note about the GMAT Focus is that all 3 sections contribute to the score equally, so if you can max one out easier than others, go for it. Our tool follows the official gmat scoring system to ensure that the results are always multiples of 5. You can use this GMAT calculator to get a sense of how much you can bump up your score with changes in each section.
Set your scores and it should match your result exactly (there is some fancy math going on behind the scenes to make sure that the results are always multiples of 5)

Understanding the GMAT Scoring System

- GMAT Raw Score. Your performance in Quant, Verbal, and DI is measured on a scale of 60 to 90.

Hey, can you link this with the percentile and thus the corresponding score of the regular GMAT?

Nice idea but I think too complex for the simple calculator…. This requires creating a lookup table and some excel functions…. I’ll check with the Calculator but I think it only supports basic operations without lookups.
PS. I will try to post a different calculator or a table for converting percentiles.

Ok that's fantastic too! So the 60 to 90 is really just 0 to 30 and then multiply the whole sum by 20/3 and plop on the 205 since that is where the scale starts. Fascinating! Can you tell I am excited?!!!

Unfortunately that is too dependent on the level of difficulty of the questions one sees. One thing is for sure, though. The penalty for leaving questions unanswered is severe, so don't do that!

I just took the real test and got 30 points less than I should have, when compared to this tool.
Do you have any idea about the possible reason? This calculator has always been incredibly precise for any kind of mocks so I was wondering what happened.

Hm… very very surprising.
I have never seen this calculator miss a beat…
Not because this is some kind of ingenious calculator or work of art but it’s simply math since the scores tend to be linear. It’s a math formula…
This is quite surprising. I don’t know if you’re comfortable sharing your score but that would be helpful to have as we poke around.
Honestly, I don’t have any explanation why it would not match. I can come up with series but none of them will be explaining it especially with such a big difference….
The best option would be to Google and search through the forums to see if you can find someone else with the similar split to get an understanding if the problem is with the calculator. Not impossible or if there is a problem with the GMAC’s calculation.

I got a the worst score I have ever got... Q82, V85, DI81 - Total: 625
All the percentiles were perfectly aligned with the individual and the total score. Honestly the total score looks very harsh considering the section scores. Not great, I could have done better. But it honestly looks a little bit off when compared to all the mocks I took.

I have just run several confirmed scores from Share GMAT experience forum and they have matched exactly.
This is very puzzling… I almost want to get the same score in GMAT prep which will take several attempts to match it but getting close enough should prove the scoring question and hopefully solve the mystery.

It is possible that I made a mistake in remembering the section scores, but I triple-checked and I'm quite sure about them.

So, I found this guy: who got 665 Q84 V82 DI83. (the calculator calculated correctly a 665)
I really don't see how you could get a 625 with Q82, V85, DI81 since all of the sections are contributing equally. So I feel the calculator is correct and hopefully your score will bumped up. If not, it will be a big shocker to me. Definitely want to stay in the loop and updated on this!

Hi Marcof11,
The previous version of the GMAT used multiple scales:
1. During the test, a continuous scale was used for the adaptive sections (Q and V).
2. Scores from this scale were then mapped onto a (discrete, not continuous) "internal" scale.
3. These Q & V scores were then added to get the total score (again, on the "internal" scale).
4. Finally, all three scores were then mapped onto the "external" scales that we see on the score report.
In other words, the total score was never calculated directly from the section scores that we see on the score report.
However, I don't know whether the new GMAT does this as well. Bookmarking this thread to see if your official score is the same as you remember.

However, for GMAT focus the scale is linear and each additional sectional point adds something along 6.67 points to the overall score. Each section contributes points equally and in a completely linear fashion. I have benchmarked this calculator on numerous scores since November and this is the only person who scored did not match in a somewhat unusual outcome.
So far my money is on the calculator 😎😂
PS. I’m not saying it’s equally easier or hard to get points in a specific section but rather that once you have a sectional score point, it will linearly contribute to the overall score. It seems like the situation where you may have exactly the same score split you had in a classic test but a different overall score are gone
