I dont think its disproportionate, you can play around with this score predictor: https://app.calculoid.com/?&_ga=2.26786 ... tor/101964

That's how things have been
Hi Maheshkv, is there any chance that you have access to and could share the actual mathematical conversion formula used by this GMAT Focus calculator? It does seem very accurate, based on the results I've seen so far.

Hi. It is a very simple linear relationship. 205 base PLUS a multiplier for each section that contribute to the total score. I can’t remember the exact number that each point on the sectional test contributes but you can easily calculate it since it’s a linear relationship.

I have done testing with multiple scores and all of them have matched exactly. Let me know if you have any score that does not match exactly. That will be helpful to see if perhaps my formula was slightly accurate.

The hardest part about the calculator was making it show numbers in increments of 10 but ending with 5 😂.

Any particular reason you ask?

OK, thanks. I'm asking because I would like to make a GMAT Focus score conversion table like this one for the classic GMAT, so you can see all possible score combinations at once.

I can't think of any particular GMAT Focus score examples I've seen that conflict with the calculator. Obviously, there is a limited amount of GMF score data available at this point, so my only hope at easily making such a table is to determine an approximate mathematical relationship between section scores and total scores.

I also assume that GMAT Focus section scores could be rounded—like GMAT classic subscores—which means that the same three section scores might not always convert to the same total score (a phenomenon we also see on the classic GMAT). Thus, there could be some exceptions to the formula—but I'm impressed with the calculator's accuracy so far.

The closest I can get on my own is 205 + 600[(Q/90) x (V/90) x (DI/90)], rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5.

Alright, I finally figured it out: 205 + (Q + V + DI - 180) x (20/3), rounded to the nearest multiple of 5 that ends in a 5.

Since you determined the formula first, yes—I am! : )

Why doesn't it work at the low end of scores, though?

Nevermind, I've got it (see below).

OK, I finally figured it out: it's 205 + (Q + V + DI - 180) x (20/3).

In some cases the score may be rounded up, and in others it may be rounded down (since the 60-90 section scores are also rounded).

For example, a Focus score of 83/83/90 converts to 205 + (256 - 180) x (20/3) = 711.66 = 715/805.

Thanks for the hints, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Is the number of RC vs CR questions on verbal random? I can't tell if I got unlucky twice with 13 CR on 2 mocks or if this is normal.

Mock 1: 13 RC, 10 CR
Mock 2: 10 RC, 13 CR
Mock 1 (Retake): 14 RC, 9 CR

Hi. Yes. It varies. 3-4 RC’s with 3-4 questions each. I have seen 14 RC questions as a norm and as few as 11 on the lower side.

Has anyone tried using the GMC keyboard shortcuts on the GMAT Focus?

If so—did they work?

Tab = Scroll Answers Vertically
Space = Select Answer
Alt-N = Next
Alt-Y = Yes
Alt-N = No

(Test-Center Only)

Thanks,

Hello everyone, this is my first reply in this amazing forum!

I have been studying for ~3.5 months for the GMAT. Don´t think I have put as many hours as I wanted though, I work as a consultant and don´t have that much spare time. I think I still have some more practice to do and strategies to apply - although at least the theory has been fully covered. I took a practice test 3 months ago and scored 650 and want to score 700+.

I don´t know whether to take the GMAT Focus (which will require me to learn IR for the data insights, and disregard SC + geometry), or to take the GMAT first. Currently my strongest area in verbal is CR, although I have significantly improved in SC (I feel is the easiest section to improve in verbal). I really doubt I will be worse in IR than in geometry, which is one of my weaker topics in the quant section.

Should I aim to take the GMAT Focus? Or should I first try with the original GMAT and see how it goes? My doubt comes from the fact that is pretty stressful to have 31 January as a deadline - when I´m applying in August/September 2024 (still plenty of time to solidify my score). How hard is to learn IR for data insights? It really sucks that they made this transition so fast...

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

If you have the flexibility to do so, one option could be to take the classic GMAT and, later on, take the Focus in case you feel you're missing out for any reason.

On 6 of 7 tests I took on Exams 1 and 2, there were 13 or 14 questions (4 exams had 14, 2 had 13).

One had only 10 questions.

Full details on the question counts from these 7 exams are below, along with the overall weighting of each question type.

"Graphs and Tables" are bunched together in that data, but when I took a closer look at 4 exams so far, I've always seen only 2 table questions, with the other 3 or 4 coming from graph questions.
