This is great news as many have expected the percentiles to fall off a cliff based on the reports of 695 scores.... which for 695 it did go down but just 1 percentile! That's great news - there has not been massive inflation.
So it is as expected, no major shifts. We can finally put the crazy speculation and scaremongering behind us.

Until next year.

😂

I really did not think or expect they would make changes this year.

How will the applications which are already submitted and interviews already done pan out. I had a 615 score with 80 percentile which was clearly 680 but now it became 77.7% which makes the score ambigous with 650-680. I was sure of my convert at 680 seeing the school trends now I am really stressed.

Can I ask the source of 705 = 99 percentile?

I have an official score Vs. percentile report from Nov, 2023 data that states 705 as 98.1 percentile.
The new one using Aug, 2024 data on the GMAC website states 705 as 98.2 percentile.

Hence I don't see much difference in the two. Have I missed a report released between these two official reports (between Non 23 and Aug 24)? Thanks for the clarification.

bhardwajharsh207, when you say school portal, you mean the schools website? Or on mba.com?

Good question. Schools have averages. Percentiles are a reflection of the overall trend. When applying to schools, you can refer to their average score as individual school trends are different.

Here’s a list https://gmatclub.com/forum/average-gmat ... 30038.html

Hi babyulikeit, There was some confusion when GMAC released multiple tables - one long and one short. The long multi page table with decimal points was a confusing mess. 705 was 99th percentile. Let me find you a discussion about it.

https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-focus-p ... 29886.html

I missed a few points in the discussion and the fact that they announced that percentiles will be changing in Q3 every year. What a terrible timing.... However, the fact that they changed it very so slightly is the good news because overtime, those changes will only slow down.

roger121,

It’s really hard to answer because each school will probably handle this differently. Large programs will have enough focus scores to allow them to compare only between the focus testtakers.

Smaller ones will go potentially to percentiles to make sense of the mess created by GMAT classic, GRE and now GMAT focus scores and now updated percentiles to the gmat focus scores 🤯

Ultimately, they have a certain goal and target for their average period the scores will not be tight so much to percentiles but rather to the composition of the applicants into that program and the average score at that program.

so there’s no way to really tell but everyone else is in the same boat so I think for round one, it’s probably going to have a little impact as few people have a opportunity to react.

Thank you for this discussion about GMAT scores and percentiles.

We want to chime in and remind the community that percentiles are updated every year around this time (the third quarter of the year) as it has been done every year over past decades.

Additionally, as noted in several posts in this thread, the percentile shifts are minor, and within the average range we’ve seen over the years. We know business schools expect the updated percentiles each year and are looking forward to receiving even more GMAT (Focus Ed.) scores this season. And we are, of course, excited for the opportunities the exam can open up for MBA/MIM candidates – especially members of GMAT Club!

Hii,

Is there a need to resend scores to the schools via mba.com?
Do we need to update the screenshots uploaded (as a GMAT score report) in the school's application portal with the new percentiles?

The new concordance table is very confusing to say the least. A score of 685 corresponds to 96.2 percentile and maps to both 730 and 740. So which one is it?

Hi hkalabdu,

We won't get this information from the percentile tables. Instead, as bb mentioned, you should check with your target schools.

For example, if a school's average GMAT score has gone up, it could mean that more test takers are getting higher scores, or that more test takers with higher scores are applying to that school (or a combination of the two).

Think of it this way: the latest percentile tables are based on data from the last 5 years (2019-2024). The new GMAT (FE) is less than 1 year old, so even all of that FE data won't have a major effect on the percentiles released by GMAC.

Hi. There is absolutely no need to do any of that. At least I would not. This is something school is welcome to work out with GMAC and update the details automatically.... They likely don’t care enough as changes were pretty minor.

Just to confirm, how should we go about self reporting the scores? I got a 735 when I took the GMAT Focus. With the old percentiles, this is a 99.7% (now 99.6% with the new table). I sent my scores to the schools back when the old percentiles were out. However I have not submitted the actual applications yet.

The schools I am applying to do not allow you add decimals to our percentiles (so both the old and the new version round to 100 percentile).

However, in the individual subsections, the percentiles changes more meaningfully. I scored an 84 on Data Insights (which used to be the 98 percentile). It now says that is the 97 percentile. When I self report scores should I put 97 percentile or 98 percentile for Data Insights (note: I have already sent the official score report that mentioned 98 percentile so I want to be consistent).

Thanks in advance.
