yes, in this equation k and z are additional units not total units.

3X + 2Y = 90, 3(k+10) + 2(z+10) = 90, 3k+2z = 40

Yes, it’s a possibility, but as per the GMAC team, the difference would be quite subtle and not very noticeable. My take is that if the test generally starts around a 655 level question, then based on your previous section, it might start around 705 if you did well or 605 if you didn’t. But in the end, it’s probably just a one or two question difference, and the test quickly adjusts to your ability after the first few questions in the next section

because k+10 is total of x units and z + 10 is total of y units. Average cost is total cost of x and y divided by sum of x and y units (k+10+z+10)

k+z is not 15+20, k+z is 15 where k is 10 and z is 5. 20+k+z which is the total of x and y, this equals to 35

you can substitute these back in the equation and you get an average of 20. 600 + 5(10) + 10(5)/(20+10+5) = 700/35 = 20

equation is 3k+2z = 40 or 3x + 2y = 90, but not 3x+2y = 40

Can you guys help me with your approach for solving hard CR questions. My accuracy is 85-90% on the medium ones. Also, with the hard ones if I spend sufficiently long time I do get the right answer but I tend to faulter in timed scenario.

Hi Karpe17,

There really is a lot of bad information out there on this, including on GMAT club. Your first section does have a (minor) effect on the beginning of your second section, but the GMAT is not a section-adaptive test like the GRE.

To be clear, this is not my personal opinion. This is what GMAC reps say about the adaptive nature of the GMAT.

Great insight 👍
