Hi,
I would appreciate your views on a current dilemma regarding prep materials I am having. I plan to invest certain amount of money on prep material this month and some next month; I plan to purchase the official mocks +DI one month, and unofficial mocks another month due to financial constraints. I am in the middle of my prep, and plan to give the GMAT latest by July (it keeps getting pushed lol cause I do not feel confident with the 1 hour prep I am able to undertake everyday; but that is a different matter).

Question for your:
- The dilemma now is that should I get started with the unofficial mocks and purchase that first, save the official mocks for later in the prep? Or should I purchase the official mocks+DI bundle to prioritize honing?
- Further, I would appreciate your inputs to understand if the order in which you utilize official/unofficial mocks impacts your prep. If yes, then how do I suggest I approach this dilemma.

Thanks : )

Hello Team,
Do you feel, we need to focus on coordinate geometry as well? I observed those videos are taken from GRE prep so is it valuable to learn ? or its very less likely to come into GMAT?
Thanks team for all your help and support !
It’s still very much in the syllabus, and questions from coordinate geometry are seen often across quant and di. Scope is limited but it’s always good to know the basics

You want to use the official tests sparingly as a confirmation of your progress but as you can’t take them section by section, you don’t want to take them and waste the questions while you have not covered Q, DI, and V. You definitely can, just not optimal (though you could just skip one section and then just keep retaking at least for free tests). I feel the main value is score validation from the GMAT Prep

It is the closest to the official GMAT (definitely not perfect as people have reported on occasion large score swings) but GMAT Prep is a great tool to use to validate your score before booking the $300 appointment. It is also great to use in the final stretch when you are just perfecting things so don’t waste them.

Hello. Could someone please guide me on how to start with the gmat official guide ?
If you’re looking to practice, you’ll need the Official Guide. If you already have it, start with building your basics first, then move to the easier official questions to get comfortable with the concepts.

You can follow this study plan if you want a more structured, topic-wise approach:
gmat-may-june-weekly-gmat-study-plan-group-454866.html

CJ also has a great classification of official questions, which is worth checking out if that works better for you:

Hi,
Looking for some guidance here :)
I am trying to build my skills in Verbal but whenever I get any material across Philosophy I struggle a lot.
Can anyone suggest if RC topics on Philosophy are relevant or not for GMAT FE and if yes how do I strengthen my grip on this subject?

Hi! I recently gave a gmat club mock and scored 565. Quant was okay for topics I revised, but I blanked on others. DI I struggled with timing and energy. Any advice on how to improve consistency and stamina during the test?

Also, I’ve noticed a pattern in my prep—I'm able to solve easy questions across most quant topics, but I struggle with medium and hard ones.

I think my basics are clear, but I get stuck when questions are twisted or require multiple steps.

How do you bridge this gap? Do you focus more on advanced concepts, or is it more about pattern recognition and practice?

I feel it is about pattern recognition (at least it was for me) - when you read the question, your mind should mechanically start thinking on its own how to solve so you don’t need to think how to solve. I was able to get almost all question types except Group Questions (30 people study french, 20 study german, and 10 don’t study any language, how many total people are there). I struggled with this one and so I had to memorize 1 question and solution to it and that helped me understand the pattern.

I also would stick without going into tougher topics such as Probability or Combinations for now

Relevance can be tricky. Even passages from topics you usually enjoy can feel weird on the GMAT sometimes.

Instead of focusing too much on philosophy as a subject, maybe try shifting your approach. Break the passage down into structure. What is the main idea, how is it supported, what role each paragraph is playing (for the topics you find uninteresting). Then attempt the questions from that lens.

GMAT Ninja has some really solid tips on this, worth going through: experts-topic-of-the-week-5-22-17-ultimate-rc-guide-for-beginners-241004.html

If you still want extra reading practice, you can try articles from Harvard Business Review and The Economist. They are closer to the kind of reasoning and structure you will see on the test.
