GMAT ONLINE Enhanced

We have over 10 debriefs about the new Online experience Examity solution and I wanted to highlight some interesting learnings:

Basics:
  • Start Date: May 20, 2021
  • Section order is available just like it is on the regular GMAT (3 options: AWA, IR, Q, V ||| V, Q, IR, AWA ||| Q, V, IR, AWA)
  • 2 Breaks are also available just like on the regular GMAT
  • AWA is now included on the GMAT. Don't fret though, there is an easy 1-day guide that guarantees 6.0 here
  • You can see the score at the end of the test but you can't get a screenshot or a record unfortunately
  • The Online and Regular GMAT scores remain separate entities. That means you can take the Online and Regular GMAT without a waiting period, even on the same day if you so wished.
  • Online GMAT scores do not show up on the regular GMAT score reports and vice versa.
  • You cannot cancel an online GMAT score but you do not need to because out of the 2 currently allowed attempts, you choose which one you want to share/send to schools; thus there is no need for a cancelation feature
  • There is still a limitation that allows you only 2 attempts of the Online version of the test though there are rumors that at some point there will be more attempts allowed.
  • The test is compatible with Windows and MacOS including the M1 and Big Sur as reported by a few usrs.
  • Final score available within 7 business day (though not always)

Latest Feedback From Test Takers:

1. You cannot launch/test the Secure Browser before the test
    The GMAC site says that you should run a test and check the system but confusingly enough, you actually cannot start the secure browser until about 15 mins before your test (that is also when you can first login). It appears the GMAC has cut that time from 30 mins to 15 which is nice because you can't leave the camera during that time and it can get pretty annoying sitting in silence there. It will take you 15-20 mins once you check-in process begins to complete the checks and routines and to start taking the test as reported by vijaykhot


2. The proctors talk to you and are ACTUALLY nice!

    Also see this Vijaykhot's crazy experience. I don't think the previous platform proctors would have gone out of their way to help a test taker, just my hunch:

    After that, I finished the IR section and started the AWA section. Here comes the best part of my exam. Just as I pressed enter after completing the first paragraph everything got erased. All of a sudden, everything was deleted. I was puzzled! Then, I received a message saying the ESS browser has stopped working. Not sure what was happening, I asked the proctor for help. The proctor instructed me to close the ESS secure browser and exit the page. After suspiciously closing the page I was redirected to the EXAMITY page. But, my computer was still showing that I was connected to the internet. So, I asked the proctor if I can open some other page to check my connection. The proctor permitted me to do so and even to take my time. So, first I opened GMAIL and it opened fine. Then, the proctor suggested opening speedtest.net and check my internet speed. And shockingly, the speed had fallen to in and around 1 Mbps. The proctor said that I compulsorily needed at least 2 Mbps speed and we cannot continue with the exam. I felt that I lost my attempt. But, anyway, I asked the proctor if I could connect to the backup connection. The proctor allowed me to check the other connection and asked me to check the speed. And again backup connection too was slow ( less than 1 Mbps). I just kept on switching between connections. But nothing worked. I had given up. Then all of a sudden the proctor decided to connect me to the exam. The proctor said that as my connection is slow, the interface might lag while switching between questions. But as I was on my essay, I felt that it wouldn't matter. After that, the proctor re-connected me to the exam. And thankfully the first paragraph was present already and the timer too started from where the exam was disconnected. As warned by the proctor, the interface did lag while typing. Still, it was not that big of an issue. And then I completed the essay.

4. Speed Test from Examity sometimes Fails
    If your speed test fails, it may not be your issue. See this feedback from Tushar11.

5. Online vs. Regular GMAT Difficulty:
    Several people mentioned that they thought the online test was harder than GMAT Prep. However, as I can confirm with myself, it is really hard to judge one's score. The good news is that we already have a report from ved02 who took both tests within a week of each other. Here is the feedback:

    Online Enhanced:

    Overall, the exam was farrrr more difficult than any of the mocks. In Verbal, the RC passages were much more dense than any I've practised, crazy technical. I'm lucky in a way it covered topics I somewhat knew, but just so much jargon. Even the CR and SC were more difficult. My very first question was a fairly difficult boldface that took me 3 mins without warmup from an easy start. Compared to my V45, my mock verbal scores have ranged from V47-49 with 1-3 mistakes.

    The Quant was also super difficult. I must have got at-least 7 coordinate geometry questions. The very first question was a difficult weighted average. I barely finished the test on time, had to guess on last 2. Also gave up on a couple other questions. I didn't see a single combination, one of my strongest topics. All-in-all, the topics tested and the kind of questions were very different from any of my mocks. For context, I typically finished mocks with some time left, last one with 9 mins left. Overall Score: 760 Q49, V45

6. There are some issues with the AWA Essay Writing that Have been Reported
