Just a thought, for over 3 hours of the exam, the proctor has to monitor us on screen and they like us maybe working remote and has bad internet/glitch on their off days. So there is a bit of a risk that we may have to be patient with them, during the test. We added more complexity now by taking online exam:

1. We are not on Pearson Vue network/center to have a dedicated access to their own internal network with speed & reliability. -ve.
2. Proctor have to monitor us through their network. They also need breaks like us :) -ve
3. Pearson Vue has to get to record all things we do while we take test and all the things proctor does. -ve
4. Even to talk to proctor, we can't take eyes of the monitor. We will have to stare on the computer monitor continously. Hey, I do make lots of gestures stretch my arms, roll my head etc lol. -ve

Unless it is urgent and you live far off from the test center, I would suggest test center. Also, lot of us, don't have dedicated space & super speed internet to take test when no one would bother us(like mailman or road noise etc). Test centers are controlled environment, you can make complain if it is noisy/need help/switch keyboard/mouse etc. I just had to focus on the test and not the external factor. :wink:wink: :D

Best approach to this decision is to prioritize your own personal requirements for success (not anyone else's)

Stress is the biggest problem on test day and a major contributor to performance drop off from practice tests. If the group environment is inherently stressful for you, then the online exam is a better option.

But be sure about a few things:
1) completely disturbance free, quiet testing area (if the proctor hears a noise (or worse a voice), then you will have to pause and show them you are alone.
2) super reliable internet and electricity
3) no distractions of any kind in home environment

Feel free to DM if you have more questions

Hi Garima999999999,

Many students have taken the GMAT online without any issues, so if you feel most comfortable taking the GMAT in your home, then I say you go for it.

Hi Everyone,

I took my first GMAT attempt on 23rd December at Test Centre and scored 650 Q48/V38. I was a little disappointed with my marks as I scored consistently better in all my mocks. Something I think might have been an issue is the timing and the place of the test. My test was in a different city and at 8:00 in the morning. I am not used to function in the morning so it may have caused some problem.

Also, I suffer from social anxiety which sometimes makes it difficult for me to function outside my room. I am more comfortable giving test at home but I have read certain blogs here where people favoured test centre based exam over online exam. Please provide your experience and help me decide if I should take test centre based exam or GMAT online

Thank you

Hi Garima999999999,

Sorry to hear about your experience with GMAT on the test day.

Here's an article that you may find helpful:
