Please kindly help to clarify the reason why Choice C is correct. After I applied POE, I got C & D but I chose D, the wrong answer. Thanks a lot.

The split between C and D is "derive" and "derives"

Correct answer C - "derive" - refers to the alphabets.

since alphabets are plural, derive is correct.

Try doing this

The N and The S Alphabets were dervived from ...

Without "The" Sentence would look awkward..Also inverting the sentence would also help you to find that the verb "derive"

must be plural
