Hi, I use a lot of scratchpaper during the quant section- has anyone run into the problem of not getting a scratchpaper refill in time during the in-person exam? I'm worried that I'll run out and then it'll eat into my time asking for a new booklet

Hopefully, it won't be a major problem. A quick suggestion would be to request you are given a spare marker in case the primary one runs out.

Ask for two scratchpads instead of one before the quant section. Tell the proctor that you write very big and one pad won't be enough. Chances are that they will agree to give you two.

I know someone who always did that. She took the GMAT a few times and this worked for her. Hope your test centre agrees too. Nobody can afford to lose time in the middle of quant.

Hi jykl,

Although some Test Centers will offer a slightly different version of the 'pad' you'll receive to take notes on, the standard 'pad' is a laminated, spiral-bound 'legal-size' pad with 6 sheets (the front of the 1st sheet will have instructions on it, but you'll have 11 other sheet faces to write on - which is a LOT of space). You can request a new pad at any time - but you would likely find it most efficient to swap pads during your two 8-minute breaks, when you won't be using Test time waiting for a new pad. If you're still running through an entire pad during the Quant section under these conditions, then there are likely some issues with how you take notes, organize your work, etc.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Make sure you tell the proctor before the section starts that you likely will be asking for a new scratchpad. Also, raise your hand as you finish a question so that by the time the next question starts, the proctor will have given you a new pad. It's similar to passing a baton in a track meet.
