So did I. But then I felt that now was the time when I needed to get as much information from the MBA world as possible. Who knows, I may get an offer for a no-interest loan from an organization set up by a rich and generous Indian dude or something (Wishful thinking). So I went to the GMAT website and opted for sharing the profile. I obviously didn't add very personal info, though.

That's true. You only get your scholarship decision after you submit data on your finances.
I agree with the rest, as well, schools will "pay" to get better students. Better is, however, subjective. For some school it may mean to convince a few applicants from an under-represented profile to round up the class they'd like while for another school it may mean to chase high GMAT scores.
In the end, they try to do what they think is best for them with the resources they have.
