If feel more compelled to take the VC job (regardless of b-school) then go for the VC job. It's not about whether b-school adcoms like it or not. It's about whether YOU like it. It's your life, your career, your choices -- I mean, you don't even know who these individual adcoms are, so why have something as big as your career choices be dictated by them? B-school isn't some panacea or golden slipper that will magically transform you. Or that if you get an MBA from a top school, it'll be smooth sailing, you'll be raking in the opportunities, and the world will be at your feet.
Too many folks seem to be too willing to have someone else decide for them what they should do, what "looks good" for others. When you start making choices based on what YOU want, that's when you will have a real life -- and the byproduct of that is a far more interesting resume and career path than someone who spends so much time scheming and positioning for the sake of others.
Don't go in with the mentality of "how do I enhance my profile" -- it's a foolish way to do things, because then little of what you do will be driven by anything internal. The anchor is external, and your life and career will be driven mostly (if not purely) by external validation. Trust your instinct on stuff like this -- pursue jobs, opportunities, activities, initiatives, ideas, etc that compel you and that interest you. If you do that with full commitment, you *will* end up with a far more interesting background in hindsight compared to someone who tried too hard to plan his career for someone else (b-school adcoms, parents, etc.).
