Hi!
My question might be somewhat unusual, since I am actually just starting my career (about to graduate). However I would like to have the option to go to a top MBA program later in my life if I decide to pursue a different path. I will provide a brief overview over my current situation and then explain my question in more detail.
Brief Overview:
From Germany, with background in Russia
Undergraduate: Business, GPA 3.3 - Well-known German school, not known internationally
Graduate: Business GPA 3.8 - Top 30 US school
Experience: Until now, some small internships, one at a Consulting boutique
Extracurricular: Sports (Gymnastics, some other extreme sports), Finance/Consulting Club Member, Administrator for Student Website
Languages: 4 (German, Russian, English, French) I speak them pretty well.
GMAT: Reckoning that I can get a GMAT in the 700-750 range with some serious practice when I will to take it.
Edit: Other Stuff: Maybe I should also mention that I lived in the UK for a year in highschool and interned in France for half a year. Not sure how that will affect a potential MBA application in 2-5 years though.
Here's my question:
I currently have an interesting job offer to work a German VC who would place me with several Internet Startups within the next years where I could pursue different roles such as Business Development, Marketing, Product Development and more. I would probably also be able to manage small groups fairly quickly. Alternatively I can also apply for a Consulting Position and hope to get offers from 1st and 2nd tier consultancies.
Essentially, I am wondering whether the first option would still enable me to get into Top5-10 US+International programs, provided I do indeed interesting work and get a high GMAT. Can people coming from a startup background (not as a founder) go to Top MBA programs?
And as a secondary question, what would you recommend me to work on most in the next years to enhance my profile?
Thank you very much!
