Going over word limits is okay?

Hello guys,
I am wondering if I go over about 20 words on 600 words essay.

is USC Marshall strict to the word limit? should I shorten my essay from 620 words to 600 or less?
I am just worried about it...

Better to stick to the limit unless you really can't shorten it. However, with 600 word limit, I believe removing some redundant words won't be difficult e.g.by rephrasing the sentences etc.

It is better to follow the limit unless you have strong reason to exceed.

Yes, Adamahn89, I agree with the others. In fact, I would urge you to get another set of eyes to look over the essay. You might not see a way to tighten things up, but I guarantee you someone else will.
