I'm in. (speechless again)
Dear ...............

Congratulations on being admitted to the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, Class of 2009!

We are pleased to welcome you to a community;and an experience; unlike any other. We select our students based on fit: a person's drive, curiosity, and willingness to stretch his or her mind in new directions. Business school is not a spectator sport. We want students who will engage, debate, question, and be excited by the life-changing experience that is Chicago GSB.

What's in it for you? A way of looking at the world that will affect every decision you make for the rest of your life, business or otherwise. A community of classmates from more than 50 countries, and an alumni network that spans the world. An opportunity to spend two years connecting with people who approach work and play with equal intensity, who revel in classroom discourse as much as they do exploring new nightclubs and running on the beach.

As part of Chicago GSB, you are part of the University of Chicago;an environment that fosters the creativity and collaboration that has led to 79 Nobel prizes. It is an electrifying experience to be here. It will transform your thinking. It will change your life. And likewise?this university is only as strong as the fabric of its people. It will be all the stronger for having you join us.

With warm regards,

Rosemaria Martinelli
Associate Dean, Student Recruitment and Admissions

Hi guys, I'm in to Chicago as well.

Now comes the tough time: Wharton or Chicago? which one to go? please vote.

I was going to make an argument for chicago, but given your lack of enthusiasm, my gut tells me you already decided Wharton. Congrats none the less..

First of all, congrat to many admits!

Honestly I prefer Wharton a bit to Chicago because of Wharton's brandname. But for several personal reasons, I'll have to make decision based on scholarship, and I'm preparing application for scholarship to both schools, so don't know yet how much I'll get from each. I have a sense that getting some $ from Chicago is easier than from Wharton.

I've never been to US and so don't know which school is better fit with me. What I'm worry about Chicago is its weather, I heard that winter in Chicago is horrible, is it right?

If any of you can give me some analysis of both school, I'll be grateful. My career goal is to become an equity analyst and may go back to Asia right after MBA.

Thanks.

I didn't see any info about scholarship in the admit letter. And during the phone call to inform I got in, my mobile didn't work well so I missed some part of the conversation. I just made sure that I got in and didn't ask anything about scholarship then. Is there anyway for me to check this or do I have to email and ask the adcom?

I'm an idiot. I didn't read my decision very closely. I'm a waitlist, not a Ding at GSB. Makes no difference really, but now I can tell myself that they were just worried about their yield (just like Kellogg). :)

There's likely no correlation, but its interesting that for the ultra-elite type schools I applied to I was accepted at the two where I really went out of my way to say that they were my top choice and that I would attend if accepted. I made that crystal clear during the interview for Insead and Columbia. For GSB and Kellogg I didn't really do that. CLEARLY thats the reason I was WL at those schools. :-D Right?

You'll know when you get the letter in the mail. Or just call them and ask.

Is page 1 R1 updated, Rhyme? The waitlists I mean.

It looks like Haddy and me are the only ones on the waitlist. Almost 40% got off the waitlist last year, so it's still not over.

I wonder whether the 60% of people who did not get in off the WL last year accounts for people who voluntarily took themselves off of the WL. If those people are included in those 60%, then the percentage of people who chose to remain on the WL and were eventually accepted would be greater than 40%.

OK, I've been feeling not so well since yeaterday because my mobile did not go ding-a-dong. But I've just been to the BW forum and they say over there that the AdCom is not doing any calls prior to the deadline, unlike in R1&2. Well. My spirit rocketed! There's still hope for poor old helg :-D
