Hi everyone. I gave GMAT focus yesterday and scored a 685. Here is a summary of my profile:

  • IIT Bombay batch of 2020, CPI 8.03
  • 8 months of international experience
  • 2.5+ years of consulting experience in Auto Industry (non-MBB)
  • No Leadership roles in college but extracurriculars I feel are strong
My target is M7 + maybe LBS and ISB. I need some support with the following and would be grateful for any help!

  1. Should I retake GMAT? I had a 710 last year and I have improved to a 685. DI is holding me back. Let me know if there are any sources for practice (I have exhausted TTP and OG DI review)
  2. Admissions gateway slots are almost full and I was assigned a mentor that I am not sure of based on due diligence. Not finding them friendly either and they are trying to rush the process. I am not sure if its worth the 10K USD and I am on the hunt for some guidance. But R1 seems tough. I am new to the entire process and would like some clarity on what my options are. (apologies for the open ended question :( )

@SpagetBakemono - A higher score, ideally 740+ (Classic) would help increase chances at M7's. Latest average GMAT/ GPAs at M7's along with details of class profiles are here

Applying with a stronger profile in Round 2 is better than a rushed-up application in Round 1. Some more differences between MBA application rounds can be found here

Hope this helps some. Feel free to reach out with your profile for a deeper chat.

Arvind

Hello SpagetBakemono,

Hope this finds you well.

Profile-wise, you have a lot going for you (considering the IIT pedigree, international exposure, as well as the strong extra-curricular activities); however, the GMAT is what might pull you back especially since you are considering the M7 programs.

The ideal scenario would have been for you to apply in Round 1; however, what is more important is that you apply with your best case in hand; hence, we recommend that you retake the GMAT and apply in a later round (in case you are not able to improve your score by September).

Should you feel the need for a detailed profile evaluation, please feel free to get in touch with us.

All the best!

Hey there SpagetBakemono

A 685 on the GMAT is a solid score; congratulations! The M7 programs are very competitive, and a higher score could definitely help your application stand out.  Especially since you mentioned DI is holding you back, there might be some targeted practice that could bump your score up.

Things can get a little overwhelming on the application front, especially for first-timers. R1 deadlines are approaching, and it sounds like you could use some guidance on navigating the process.

We can definitely delve deeper into your profile and explore your options in a  1:1 call. It would be great to hear more about your specific goals and extracurriculars to see how we can position your application for success. Feel free to schedule a call at your convenience!

Hey SpagetBakemono,

A 685 on the GMAT Focus is a strong score. Being an IIT Bombay grad with 2.5+ years crushing it in consulting (even outside MBB) is a killer combo. Your extracurriculars are strong, even without leadership roles in college – that's well-rounded!

Round 1 deadlines are looming, but don't panic! Especially since you're new to the MBA application game. Let's talk about your profile in more detail. If you're cool with sharing your CV and goals, we can help you craft a stellar application that gets noticed by the right schools.
