by the way, unless you are working for a startup or for your own organization and if you are working for a big company... its not easy (definitely not impossible) to get upto a level where you can have many direct reports along with having significant influence (within 5-7 years of joining the industry)... i think we are confusing EWMBA applicant pool with MBA for executives... i am sure there are exceptions everywhere... but from what i have understood so far, you need to demonstrate passion for success and your past track record shows clear progression to the adcoms.. they know that we still are relatively new in our careers and have a long way to go and believe that MBA is one piece of the puzzle that will help us be where we want to end up being...

very well said, thanks. I guess there is a lot of misinformation on the other forums. I've heard things such as "if you are an engineer without direct reports you have almost 0% chance of ewmba"

Although I know that is not the case, I felt most rumors have some degree of truth. But I think your points are right on, it's really the progression and managing folks might be a symptom of really good progression.

interesting. I'm guessing the move to the single contributor role was actually a move up?

packet,

mind letting us know if you were/are managing folks?

Directly, no. I do however work on fairly large projects that I manage. So, I get resources assigned to my project that I have to direct.

by the way, just to clear one more misinformation/confusion that I created... the total class size is not going to be 260 (as reported by me earlier), it is going to be 250 (just like it was last year)... so 10 seats less...

Have they officially announced no increases in seats this year? I thought that statement, yes or no, would come later during the process?

As i speculated/suspected earlier, Haas added round 4

https://ewmba.haas.berkeley.edu/admissions/

Looks like they are not happy with the pool of applicants.

Thank you. I have added it to the system, so now there is an R4 option for the charts/tables/applications.

or it could it be that they want to receive a certain total # of applicants each year? again, it doesn't even look like a round 4. it's just an extension of round 3's deadline since the results come on the same day.

Does this increase/decrease our chances in R2? Or does it not change anything at all?
I agree with pinch that its not a real R4, just an extension of R3.
They are assuming that they will not get many applicants and hence won't need a lot of time to process them all.

I doubt it changes the chances in r2. More than likely, they didn't get as many applications in r3 as they were expecting.

What's interesting is I think that in 2012 the RD3 deadline was a month later, sometime in April (if i'm not mistaken). This year they moved RD3 earlier 1 month and probably hoped the vast majority of applicants would get the message, but somehow they didn't get the # of applications they anticipated. Either unsuccessful marketing or some "seasonality" with the EWMBA candidates.

Or it could be peer pressure :)

I doubt I get in this year. I have a pretty amazing “life story”, I'm pretty sure my essays were all okay, even my Rec letters...but I guess Hass really takes the GMAT score seriously… I haven’t applied anywhere else and I haven’t been interviewed, so I guess I have to apply again next year… Got a job interview for a senior position, so hopefully that’ll help my application next year…but must take the Gmat again..ugh
