Hi Paul-
I just saw this post from Harvard over at ClearAdmit:
Due to the academic rigor of the MBA Program, candidates are strongly encouraged to complete introductory quantitative coursework, such as accounting, finance, economics and/or statistics prior to matriculation. Some candidates may have their admission to the MBA Program contingent on the completion of such courses prior to their enrollment.I'm assuming most of the other top schools will have similar requirements. I was a sociology major in college and only took a statistics class (got a B or B-minus) as well as a research methodology class in terms of quant. I graduated back in 2000. I'm applying this fall...do I need to hurry up and take an econ/finance class this summer to strengthen my profile or will my statistics course suffice for now? My quant GMAT score was 47.
Should I just concentrate on my applications this summer and wait to hear from the schools?
Thanks!
Venguyen,
If you think you can ace an accounting course this summer, it certainly wouldn't hurt your odds of admission, but I don't see it as a major issue in your admission chances because your GMAT score is good and, as you said, you have taken statistics. Since you got a B in stats, you might also consider retaking statistics if you have the time. Again, however, I don't see such coursework as pivotal to your admission chances.
Good luck,
